Been wondering same thing since I got mine. There must be someone out there that can "home brew" or "jail break" this thing to allow third party software.

I have the answer! I purchased a device online and I have the paperwork at home. However I am able to play videos watch movies the whole gamut right off my iPhone and this device takes five minutes to plug-in in back of your radio I will upload the information later but the answer is yes in a cost about 150 bucks for the cable attachment that comes with a little chip processor.

    http://www.cruxinterfacing.com/products/WVITY-01/index.html

All you have to do is buy this crux interface cable, it plugs into three spots on the back of your radio. And the radio comes out with like three screws it's simple to remove you can see it on YouTube. Once you plug in this device in the back of your radio, and plug the radio cables into the device they piggyback. The device will now play anything from your iPhone! You can go to video on your iPhone and play movies, if you have a Slingbox you can watch live TV on your radio, or you can use your iPhone navigation it will come across the radio screen as well. It's very simple to use just go on their website it explains everything!
