    I thought I had, but realized all I did was test resistance & continuity. The FSM I have is for '03 & I guess by then the canister & valve types had changed for the 5vz-fe. This one is a three way valve & while I can find pee-lenty about testing purge valves, I cannot find a thing on-line about it testing this with a vacuum pump. Just wanna know what it's supposed to do when pressure is applied with & without voltage. That's all....
    Even lettered the ports for ease of explaining....

    It is not so much testing the VSV it is either open or closed that is all it does.

    The hard part is being able to tell that the vsv is opening and closing when all the correct things line up.

    Perhaps someone has the FSM handy with the test procedures to test all the parts of the system

    Exactly. The 3 way vsv seems to be something of a rarity. As far as vids & guides all I'm seeing are 2 way after the introduction of the close check valve.

    The VPS with two hoses compares atmospheric and tank pressure and sends data to ECU using variable voltage to determine EVAP response.
    Example, open Purge, close Purge, insufficient flow, etc...

    Right. Maybe I'm missing something?

    Let me try it this way -
    I could check the purge valve because they are the same even after the vsv for vps change. It is supposed to operate one way with, & another way without, voltage. The two way vsv for vps, according to the fsm, can be tested the same way. Problem is I have a three way vsv for vps & cannot find info on how to test it or rather, what the results should be with & without voltage. For instance, without voltage on the two way, air should flow from a to b. With, it should not. (Not sure that is correct. just as an example). So on the three way, is there supposed to be flow from a to b or a to b & c? Or vice versa? & what about with voltage?

    @Kristi with a K
    Long story short,
    VSV closed= no vacuum or pressure change= WORKING
    VSV open = flow = working.
    The VPS voltage will vary as pressure changes.
    Because Toyota gas caps all have vacuum relief valves the VPS measures pressure only. Vacuum tests do not apply and may damage the diaphragm inside VPS.

    I managed to find some resources. Posted them in the sticky because I know it's an issue for many '01 5vz owners.

    Yes. Turns out it is faulty & will need to be replaced. I can only bench test it cuz I don't have a nifty toyota tester. It would appear that one of the ports is not opening when it's supposed to. No cel per usual, & the ticking from the new purge vsv is pretty loud.
