i know you probably can't answer this but why are your passes so big? Here in fly over country (Missouri) ours are stickers, thinner than a credit card and a couple inches each dimension (L x W). It isn't pretty I guess but stick it anywhere.

It probably has to deal with the technology (RFID; antenna system).

In the northeast, the EZ Pass has been in play since the mid 90's. It was developed earlier than that. We used to have to stop at a toll plaza to have the tags read. It was like going from B&W to Color when I didn't have to throw a token in a basket, or g-d forbit, 12 quarters... When we got the high-speed toll lanes, they had to add special gantries and large antennas to read them. Ours have battery powers transmitters in them.

We have bricks because the infrastructure has to be compatible with the oldest toll-gates.. No batteries in your sticker. It's probably all passive, like the RFID chip in your credit card.

Us early adopting states suffer, because we can't simply rip-it-up and install a whole new toll system every three years...

(My folks' home couldn't get touch-tone dialing until the 90's....)

That's probably partially true but we used to have the white bricks too. Not everything is backwards out here I guess ; )

Don’t know if this might be your problem. But when I switched vehicles and kept the same plates. I had to go online and re-register the new vehicles Vin number year make and model.

I did update the the plates to the new truck at the EZ Pass site as soon as I got it. No bueno.

They don't ask for the VIN, just the year, make, and model.
