That is me right there. I have the money...actually bought a set of standard FJ alloy wheels...just waiting for my tires to die so I can buy new ones and slap on the FJ's.....can't wait to get rid of the wack'd out sport wheels. I might turn that into a project though...like sanding and painting the inner parts.

Everything I buy goes on the credit card. Credit card gets paid in full every month. So...cash, I guess?

Cash, I dont have any type of cards, except an ATM card. I try to save a little bit bi-weekly, the taco will get done one piece at the time.

that wont build your credit. if you pay your card off every month the bureaus don't even know about it. it just looks like you have a zero balance on the card. the card itself builds length of account history, which is a good thing, but paying your credit card off every month doesnt show up at all. that being said, the amount of interest you would spend in carrying a balance is by no means worth it to build your credit. you would have to borrow 1/4 of your credit limit and pay it off over a couple months. then do it all over again.

That's not necessarily true. It still gets reported to the credit agencies even if a balance is 0. They also report the highest amount that was charged on a card. So if you made a $1000 charge and paid it off when it was due, the $1000 amount becomes the high balance of the card. The balance of your card when the payment is due is what gets reported. A lot of things make up your credit score that have nothing to do with the balance.

Length of time the card is active (which you stated): 2 years or better for a higher score.
Never being late: if the balance is paid when it's due, it's never late.
Available credit: $5000 or more is preferred per card. It's better to have one $5000 card than five $1000 cards.
Types of credit: Avoid personal finance companies. Revolving credit cards preferred aka Visa/Mastercard/Discover/Amex.

    Negatives:

More than 50% of available credit used. If you have two cards that have a $1000 limit, one is $800 and one has nothing, it's better for your credit rating to have both of the cards at $400.
Inquiries: Applying for a lot of different cards looks like you're shopping. Inquiries for credit cards take 1 year to clear off
