Would like to know if these frames were any better? Mine is a '14 and the frame is still black....this is my 4th winter and I have had it Krowned the past 3 years and I live in Northeast Pa. where SALT and brine make the roads white for most of the winter. It is also parked outside. Just wondering if anyone that lives in one of the salt states or Canada has had any really bad rust yet with these later model years.

2013 and the welds show rust. I live in the midwest.

2007 with a frame replaced in 2015 and it still looks good . I used Amsoil HDMP on it for this winter so I guess we’ll see how well that stuff works

'06 -frame replaced '16, looks new, I'm religious about doing a good auto-underwash weekly on it, good ones are hard to find, also in The Ohio State rust belt

im not in the rust belt, but my 2011 that's never had anything done to the frame only shows rust dust around the welds. I do live close to the ocean and have parked next to a boat slip for the past 8 years or so for work.

I just looked this stuff up after I read your post. I like what's in the product description: "Leaves a dry, long-lasting (up to several years), wax-like amber film".

I have Fluid Film on mine right now, and I'm sure it will do what it's intended to do over the long haul, but it is a sticky mess. It attracts all kinds of shit. I regularly pick what I would call small stones out from around the wheel well area. And I don't know how guys deal with the smell of the freshly applied shit. It's effin morbid for the first two weeks.

I also found this in the search:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-rust-prevention-experiment.310580/

Some good pics of what the surface looks like. This guys frame is spotless.

This stuff looks promising. I think I'm going with it when I need to reapply something.

Yea it smells like crayons actually for about 2 weeks once you apply it . It is “amber”/ light brownish when applied and is dry. It is kinda rough to the touch once it’s dried . I got it because it dries and isn’t wet , it’s my first time using it

I understand where you're coming from, I use Fluid Film too. Gives literal meaning to keeping the greasy side down. Thing is I wonder about spraying over the FF and if the other stuff would adhere. Would you have to use solvents to clean? I know I have to do that when I paint things under there. But on good factory paint I wouldn't want to use acetone or mineral spirits or whatever it would take.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I would guess that it has to have a clean surface to adhere, which means the FF would need to be removed. I haven't looked into yet though.

Yeah, definitely more accurate. It is lanolin based (sheep byproduct).

2014 mainly Virginia and the deep south. I've taken it offroading and on the beach quite a bit. No rust at all anywhere. If it helps, I don't drive during the winter much.

Thanks for the replies guys. After having my truck Krowned it does attract dirt but I don't care and I don't wash the frame off at all during the winter....I don't want to power wash the Krown off. So far so good....by 6 or 7 years in this area the frames on the 1st and early 2nd gens were shot--- everyone I know that had a one of these and didn't treat them someway had their frames eaten away
