OK, so I live in Buffalo NY the salted road capital of the world. I own two Tacoma's a 2012 TRD Sport Limited double cab with 9,800 miles and a new 2013 TRD Sport double cab with 400 miles so far. When I brought them home brand new I wanted to try to keep them from getting really rusty after a few winters in this climate. Being an avid motorcycle rider I use a chain wax made by Amsoil called MPHD - Heavy duty metal protector. I was reading the can one day and it said this stuff is a fantastic rust proofing that will not harm rubber or plastic components? So I completely sprayed both trucks on every surface. Frame inside, outside, top, bottom, axles, suspension, pulled out all the body plugs and sprayed the rockers, just everything. This shit kind of goes on clear and dries like a amber color. When completely dry it feels like a wax candle. the product description does say that it doesn't attract dust/dirt. Well this is the second winter on my 2012 and it fricken CLEAN. I mean not one thing is showing visible rust as of yet. I cant find even a rusty bolt. So Far so good, that's why I did the 13 as well. I used about 5 cans per truck but who cares. Remember Rust never sleeps!!! let me know if anyone else has used this stuff for this type of application. I would love to hear some feedback. Thanks....

Yehp I use that stuff for an undercoating also. Works absolutely amazing! Its great for spraying the leaf shackles down and also the control arms.

BTW, spraying the rocker panels isn't really necessary. In most of the 1st gens (and the few 2nd gens reported so far) suffering frame perforation, the body is typically in excellent shape. Focus on the frame, and especially the boxed section in the front.

I started spraying my frame with what sounds like a very similar (amber non drying waxy stuff) product from CRC. It's called Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor,Marine. I had bought it at West Marine for my boat and it worked great - in a salt water environment. Seems to be working just as well on the truck. Part # on the can is; CRC#522D.

    Agree with you on this.

Truck has 400 miles is a basically brand new hope it has little to no rust for any area even NY. The wheels area perfectly clean, does not even look to be driven in snowy weather.

Thanks for the post. There is a lot of salt up here too because of all the ice and snow. I am concerned about rust, I am going to look into this.

It has been driven. But your right it's still new. I will post some picks of my 2012 and from a rust stand point it looks the same. But yes it shows more dirt. I messed up when I was adding pictures to my post some how and crated 4 posts?? I'm new to the site lol. Do you no how I can delete the redundant posts?

Thats an interesting way to do it. I like it. I'm seriously considering brushing on rustoleum rust encapsulator here in a couple months.
