Question. If I live in CA, and I fly out to Oregon/Nevada for a deal, do I get charged CA tax or whatever the local rates are?

Also, how was the registration work for a vehicle bought out of home state.

Fairly decent deal and few add ons were included made it worth it

Flew almost 2 hours to Calgary from Winnipeg

Taxes will be charged for where you live. Registration is a breeze and you will get plates for your state mailed to you

Mine was delivered from 120 miles away. It's a long story but, long story short, I never stepped foot inside of a dealership and got it for $3000 under factory invoice.

Try to go to Vegas or dealerships near Vegas. Much cheaper out there!

I stayed local but I had to do a dealer trade for it, there were only four in my region that were Double Cab Short Bed TRD Off Road manual transmission in cement. I didn't want any of the packages but I had to settle for one with the Technology Package.

I shopped three dealers, one local, one 60 miles away, and one 90 miles away. Local was worthless and the one 90 miles away was the best deal. And did not have to meet the salesman in person until I signed the papers.

And then you got home to CA, you went to DMV to register it only to find out they required a smog check -- on a brand new 50 state compliant vehicle! OK, that was my experience yesterday. Gotta love the rules in CA... What a waste of time and money.

Just did this. No, you pay sales tax only when you get back and register it in CA. Here's the kicker: I just went to do this yesterday and DMV is requiring me to get a smog check! Doesn't matter that it's a new, 50 state compliant truck (which they acknowledged). Still have to do it for some stupid reason.

Bought my 2016 TRD OR MGM from Toyota Truck Master Dean Mahalati at Toyota West in Columbus, OH. Ordered it like 6 weeks out. Flew to Columbus from Houston, TX(had miles and hotel points).
Nobody in Texas would touch his $3,500 off MSRP at the time.
Sort of regretted not getting a QS. Even looked at selling my 2016 MGM to get a 2017 QS. Figured it wasn't worth the price difference.
2017 Hurricane Harvey ate my 2016.
My insurance gave me more than what I paid for the vehicle. Gotta love USAA Insurance.
Same thing, after Harvey and over 1 million vehicles being totaled, nobody in Texas would match Dean's same deal, $3,500 off MSRP, here in Texas they were actually jacking vehicle prices up due to demand. Ordered that QS! Flew up there again, this time stopped in Hot Springs AR on the way back...
    Happy happy happy.

I hunted for the rare Cement DCSB Off Road last year and could not find one in Colorado with just the Tech package and the Premium package - no addons. Finally located an Off Road in Phoenix, about 900 miles away. Got a good price on it but could not come to an agreement on state sales tax - it became an issue. In the meantime my local Colorado dealer gave me a call; they were allocated a Cement Off-Road optioned as I wanted and a couple other Cement Tacomas. Got the local Colorado dealer to price match my Phoenix price and I bought the truck. Waited about 2 weeks for the truck to be built and shipped.

I would have made the trip to Phoenix if we could have ironed out the tax situation.

    Thanks!
It was originally a 2016 ARE Overland, different color.
Took it off the MGM to put on the QS.
Got the whole thing painted with spray on Linex.
    It’s bullet proof....
    $625 later.

A bit of luck for me. I live in NC and had been calling dealers all weekend to get quotes. At 10:00pm I called a dealer in Salisbury, North Carolina, or so I thought. I accidentally called a dealer in Salisbury Maryland. I was shocked anyone picked up the phone that late. Long story short, they were itching to make a sale. I ended up getting a new TRD Off-Road well below MSRP. What's better is that they agreed to trailer the truck down for me that weekend, for free.

Now I just need to find an equally steezy deal on a topper.
