Interesting! Typically Wichita, Lawrence, and Manhattan only have the run-of-the-mill trucks. I went to Hendrick Toyota in Merriam. Those guys, Olathe, and the Toyota dealer at Legends have all the "odd balls." They had 3 Sport MTs in Merriam.

Most people go to work to make money...

Apparently I missed the memo when I bought my Tacoma.

Drove 3 hours for mine; much better OR selection + packages, plus my ex's brother got me into contact with the manager there.

Drove my Jeep Rubicon ~1,750 miles from Arizona to Wisconsin, then drove new Tacoma back.

The trip was expensive, no doubt, but 1) dealer had what I wanted, 2) trade price was far better than anyone else, 3) non-sleaze dealer.

After trip expenses the deal really came out about the same as purchasing locally, but I enjoy a good road trip once in awhile. Haha

Came back through Moab and did some easy roads, like White Rim, etc.

We tried to buy a new leftover 2017 from a local dealer. Turns out the price they advertised online was not actually the price. They tried to sell us the truck for 5K more than what they had it advertised for. Scammers. So I drove about 3 1/2 hours to buy mine in Virginia Beach. I was looking a low miles used truck in either BBP or inferno with a sunroof. This was the best priced truck anywhere around me.

I drove 3 hours to north Atlanta to get my OR. It was traded in after a 3 month lease and I got it for 30k with 4k miles on it.

Drove 15 minutes but I had 6 dealers within 40 minutes of me that I leveraged. I feel bad for the guys with only 1 dealer local, its gotta be tough to get a honest price.

I bought local. I wasn't even sure I was buying, but the price sent was really good. I could probably sell it for as much as I paid for it now a year 15 month later.

Recently we bought a SUV for the wife where I bought 1,000 miles away. Savings was well worth it.

Three miles from home. I've always been happy with my local dealer. I rode my bike down, test drove it, and then went back home to get my trade-in. :D

Flew to Santa Rosa CA, and drove back 500 miles. Better price up there than Southern California.

My nearest dealer is Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Last year they always seemed to have a good selection of new Tacomas, but now they only seem to have 3 or 4 Tacomas at any given time. On top of that they are always DCSBs. The dealer where I got my 2010 new (Peruzzi Toyota in Hatfield, Pennsyvania) is much larger but seems to have a larger selection of used 2nd gens than of new 3rd gens the last couple of times I've driven past it.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
In January there was only 3 Cement 2018 w/ blck leather interior, 4x2 in the entire USA. I'm in Socal, there was one in OK, TX and Louisiana. One sold. Negotiated for the one in Oklahoma for $1,000 under cost with a bed mat, mudguards, floor-mats, tonneau cover, and door-sill protectors, and arranged my own shipping..through friends in the trucking business, I paid $800 to have it shipped. The dealership overnighted the paperwork to a notary company which handled the down payment collection, all the signatures and sent the documents back so it was rally hassle free for me. Had the truck within 10 days of the first call. Same truck locally had $4K-$5k in add-ons/accessories I didn't care for...so no point in negotiating from that as a starting point..especially since Limited are pretty much fully loaded (not from an offload stand-point).

The only hassle is registering a vehicle out of state in CA...too many rules, regulations and they make you smog it even though it's new! Stupid money hungry state. It clearly has the 50 state emissions, and they know it because it's in their database, they would even allow me to register it if it didn't pass CA smog guideline in the first place! That's how stupid their logic is...maybe they want to make sure there were no out of state modifications" that would impact smog? Especially after the whole VW debacle...

I went an hour and half however, I was willing to go probably up to 8 hours away and had been looking ready to buy for 3 months. I wanted a used one that was a good deal and it had to be a TRD offroad DCSB in quicksand, a manual transmission and have a sunroof (basically a unicorn). Wasn't gonna overpay and also wasn't gonna spend 30k on a truck and not get exactly what I wanted. Ended up getting lucky and a dealer near me had what I wanted for a while but his price sucked. After about a month and a half of it sitting he decided to drop the price over 3k and I hopped on it fast. Its your truck and its worth it getting exactly what you want, don't be one of those guys who settles and then hates themselves for it, had mine for 8 months and I love it.

Just drove to the dealer to get mine.. they had it driven/shipped from a dealership 2 states away. (I live in Mass/new england.. so, wasn't that far at all.. only took em 2-3 days to get for me.) I think they just made a swap/trade.. gave them one of their trucks on the lot for mine or something like that.
