There was a '16 at Andy Mohr Toyota in Avon not too long ago. Great shape. They couldn't close the difference over literally $300, so I walked. They pestered me for weeks after and never could close. I ended up buying a '17 for an even better deal, but had to drive a little to get it a month later.

Kinda felt bad for the salesman. He was practically begging his GM. That has to be frustrating as a sales guy to be that close and the GM won't budge.

I drove from southwest Arkansas to Kansas City for my 2016 Inferno TRDOR DCLB because gulf states toyota wasnt ordering long beds when the 3rd gen was first released. Then I got rear ended on the interstate and it got totaled so i flew to Norfolk, VA back in March to pick up one of the last 2017 Inferno TRDOR DCLB’s I could find nationwide. So I was able to get an exact replacement of my 2016. Just one year newer.

Picked mine up at a local dealer located approximately 1-mile from my workplace. My son and I purchased our TRD sport, in Cement, from the same salesman both within 2-weeks.

Bought local in Delaware. At first, local dealer was not haggling and holding fast to their price until I showed them on my phone a dealer in Maryland discounting heavy on what I was looking for. Local Dealer told me to give them 24hrs and they did a dealer transfer of the exact truck I was looking at in Maryland and gave me the discount pricing.

120 miles. Wanted a Cement TRDOR DCSB. Didn't need the premium or technology packages, but this one had the technology package. Preferred manual, but I never came across one within 250 miles and my local dealers weren't interested in trying to order one for me.

Flew for Los Angeles to Oakland and from there took the train to Dublin. Picked up my truck from there and drove her home. If I remember correctly, it was a 484 mile drive home. DCLB TRD Sport 4x4 Inferno.

Flew from SF to Spokane, WA. Drove 850+ miles home. Watched for 3 months and had a tough time finding the exact combo I wanted: DCSB Off Road, manual, with Premium package, in white. I could've waited longer or ordered one, but it was an opportunity for an adventure.
The down side? Off to CA DMV tomorrow to complete CA tax and registration.

I went 80 miles north to Santa Rosa Ca. Local dealer wanted $41,500 for truck plus CA tax and fees. Freeman toyota- same truck exactly what i wanted sold for $36,500 plus $500 for the alarm (bastards) but well worth it!

Bought my last one in Dublin -- in 2007. Much closer to home (see my prior post).

Freeman Toyota was my 1st choice but it was going to be a bit more involve for me to get there. I would have saved about $500 but it was a longer drive home. I'm sure it all evened out.

10 minutes from home. I wasn’t even truck shopping, just happened to drive past the dealer on my way to some store and the truck caught my eye. So I bought it.

2,341 mi. - Ohio to California

In April of 2016, I needed a new vehicle. I played with the Tacoma configurator and knew I wanted a BBP TRD OR DCLB 4x4 with technology package and premium/JBL package. Since that apparently doesn't exist, I had to order one. I got a spec sheet and talked to just about every dealer between San Jose and San Diego and even out to Las Vegas. I had just about given up hope and decided I would be paying MSRP+, but I was planning a family trip to Indiana in the fall. I started talking to dealers in that area and worked out a deal in May 2016 that saved me about $5,000. I placed the order with Jeff Wyler Toyota in Springfield, OH with a planned pick up in September 2016. The dealer dragged their feet ordering the truck and I got a call in June that there was a problem--the 2016s were no longer able to be ordered. Since this was kinda their fault, they offered to order me a 2017 of the same truck for the same price we'd agreed to! (IIRC, 2017s were about $250 more than 2016s) I still got my truck in September and drove it back to Cali.

So that is my long story of how I bought a truck in Ohio with a free upgrade to 1 model year newer and drove it back to California. It was a fun road trip where I got to play a little with my new Toy as well!

When I bought my first new car, I was living in Valdez, Alaska. I was home on leave in Brandon, Florida and bought a new car there. It worked out great because I got tax waived and the car shipped to Alaska because I never shipped a car from home when I got sent to my first duty station.

I live 45 minutes south of Baton Rouge Louisiana. Drove 500 miles to Toyota of Dallas for the deal of the year. Very satisfied and my Son and I enjoyed the "dude time".

    Timely thread for me.

Own a home in Saint Augustine, FL and am working in Houston, TX for about a year. Currently shopping Acura MDX's for wifey and the price difference between Houston and Jacksonville for exactly the same vehicle is almost $2k due to outrageous document fees all the JAX dealers collude to. Even Orlando is bad.

Experienced the same thing when shopping for my Taco last summer. Ended up playing the COSTCO card and got a super deal at Beaver Toyota in Saint Augustine. They matched the COSTCO discount plus gave me $4K more for my trade (wife's 2012 CR-V which was sold before I left the dealership) than anyone else offered. One of the best buying experiences I have ever had.

Sadly, not the same story with the Acura dealers. The way those guys bait and switch is amazing. I also tried TrueCar, but those discounts are inconsistent, and even then, the dealers will offer big TrueCar discounts and then load up on fees or accessory prices. One dealer in Houston offered a TrueCar discount $1600 higher than anyone else, but marked up accessories 200%. Yes, 200%. After also adding the "mandatory" wheel locks, protective coating, mud guards, and tint, that $1,600 benefit turned into a $1,200 hole. BUYER BEWARE!
