My thing is why have a p/u if its NOT 4X4. I live in FL & I have 2 4X4s. I do not use the 4X4 that much in FL but if I want to go out on the Beach I will. I do not have to worry about get stuck....

why does it say''Please refrain from making left or right turns once this kit is installed. To enjoy the added handling benefits of AWD with this kit, is important that the steering wheel remains perfectly centered!" so you cant turn with this kit?

This bickering back and fourth about this kit is beside the point (even though it is a bullshit kit and noone makes a 2x4 to 4x4 swap). DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHANGE A PRERUNNER TO A 4X4. BUY A NEW TRUCK.

this forum is to find answers, the right ones, and the right answer to this question is to not attempt this swap.

I don't think it's a difficult swap, if you have the means to get it done. I work in a shop, have all the tools, lifts, everything I need. If I was gonna do it in my driveway, I'd probably find somebody that worked in a shop, to help me out.

Search Craigslist, there's a ton of 4X4 parts out there, and most of 'em are pretty cheap. We got a front diff, front driveshaft, and a rear driveshaft for $150.00 delivered to our shop.

I've seen a bunch of 4X trannys with the T/case for 4-500 bucks. Sell your tranny for a couple hundred, and offset the cost a little.

    Sure....it can be done.

    The question is:

If he attempts it.....and finds out AFTER STARTING IT...
    1) It's costing too much money
    2) Taking too much time
    3) It's far too complicated than he was lead to believe
    4) Has everything too far tore down that no shop on the planet will help him get his truck running again

Are you willing to take the chance?

I agree with all of those, and I'm sure there are a hundred project Tacomas out there, that started with good intentions, but are now piles of junk.

One nice thing about doing a conversion like this is, the only part that would stop you from driving would be if the trans swap went wrong. Everything else would be simple bolt-ins.
