Ordered my truck on October 19th. Everything that was coming into the dealer was presold already. The 2 that were available were neither the colour or model I wanted. Was told 3-6 months and my salesman even said probably February or March. Got a call late November that their allocation was increased by a few trucks and one of the trucks they were getting was the exact truck I ordered. Was told to expect it to arrive mid January. Arriving at the dealer tomorrow and picking it up next Wednesday.

I am in the PNW region and recently got a 2022 Limited in MGM.
I signed my order form and placed my deposit on 08/12/2021 and picked up the truck on 11/18/2021 so it was just a little over 3 months wait for the dealership to get an allocation for me.
3-6 months seems to be the status quo these days.

I called multiple dealers, trying to find the exact truck I wanted. On 12/27/21, I found a dealer that had the truck I wanted on order. I was told that I could put down a $500 deposit and it would be mine around 1/15/22, when it arrived from the factory. I received a call in 1/13/22 to tell me it had arrived at the dealership. On 1/14/22, I drove it home. So it took me a little over two weeks, to get mine. Sounds like I was pretty fortunate to get it that fast.

For now at least, the days of walking across a dealers lot and picking out a truck are gone. At least that’s the case in my neck of the woods. From what I understand, that’s pretty much the way it is everywhere. Let’s hope supplies catch up with demand, but I’m not holding my breath.

A year to 18 months for supplies to catch up, from what I've read.

I found an Electric Lime PRO in about 2 hours. Paid msrp. You are all thinking about this wrong. The truck of your dreams is never going to magically appear at your dealer. Use the inventory search function and start plugging away at zip codes you are willing to drive home from.

Last year I also found a lunar rock pro 4runner this way. Think road trip!!!

why place a down payment on a truck when you only pay like 2-3% interest rate lol

do I really want to be out $10k or even $30k out of pocket just to shorten my payment term? Answer: No, I will invest those funds which will grant a return greater than the 2-3% I pay in interest rate.

"waiting longer for the truck to arrive means [saving a bigger downpayment]" the way I framed that for myself is:[more money available to me now to invest instead of using on car payments]

However, if your credit is worse, a bigger down payment makes alot of sense because paying 7-9% interest on a car is losing alot of money, especially if you get a loooong term loan. Dont do that. Pay as much up front as possible. or heck, just buy a truck with whatever cash you have, forget a new one.

Congratulations, I am glad you got it so fast! I think a lot of it is exacerbated on this forum because many are very particular and not wanting to budge on color etc., myself included. So most could have a truck within a month, but it's not gonna be the one they want exactly. Basically the complaints are, the truck I want isn't available quickly, not that there aren't any trucks.

Making assumptions based off your signature and picture, but a MGM 2WD Sport is definitely a more doable search. I'd say you played it right. You called multiple dealers, looked around, and caught an allocation that had been sitting for a while it seems like based on the speed. That's legit! This is more just a ramble, riffing off your post.

But I could be wrong, for all I know that was your exact config you wanted. I think from what I've seen at least locally, 2WD and/or Sport is the easiest combo to find. They are simply not sending 4x4's to my region, I got one of a few allocated across all the dealers I was working with. And Sports seem to be the one they're building the most besides SR5.

This is the way. Or, even if you stay local, have every dealer working for you. Raise the odds. It's all an odds game. Give yourself more dice rolls!

This is the average person on this thread, myself included, in terms of specificity. I think this is why we all think it's probably worse than it is. It's an 8 out there in actuality, maybe not a 10. There are trucks to buy they just aren't our trucks. Best of luck to you, I hope it gets allocated soon, you've waited this long for your specific build, don't give up!

Wish we all know how to invest and get the most out of our money. The only things I have in investment are 401k and a Roth IRA.
If you don't even want to put at least 10k down, I'm guessing you can afford $800 to $900 monthly payment?
2 to 3% interest rate may look very small but for a large loan, it can be hefty for the life of that loan.
I guess whichever one feel comfortable.

I was lucky enough with my last 3 vehicles to get excellent rates, for this Tacoma looks like I'll get 2.46% for 60 months. My last 3 were 17' Tacoma TFSS .9% for 60, Audi Financial 0% for 72, and GM 0% for 72 so makes no sense for me to pay them off. Even at 2.49% I won't pay it off as I can make 15%+ on that money with simple investments.

Congrats! However, often the inventory search function is not up to date. I tried the same thing, found one in my area, and both local dealers I spoke with said that it wasn't on their respective lists. So I was super bummed. But congrats that it worked out for you!

I'm with you there. That is all I have. I'm plunking down enough to make the payment VERY comfortable for a reasonable term. I put money aside and sold what I sold for a reason. I wanted a new vehicle, just could not make my mind up as to what to go for. Took me a good 10 months to decide on a midsize truck.. then almost 2 months to decide on the Taco. And I considered all of them. Except that Honda thing... don't want a minivan with the roof chopped off.

You wanted that minivan engine power with the Tacoma, not the look. Smart man.

    :boink:

Never thought of it that way. Touche.

Bottom line.. I did not like the Colorado. Test drove and looked at a couple. They rode and drove better than the Tacoma. Unfortunately they rattled, creaked, clunked and banged with less than 100 miles on them.

Nissan wouldn't let me drive the 22 Frontier, only had one and it was sold. On top of that I would have been forced to buy a top of the line Pro4-X to get the options I wanted.

Gladiator is just a flat no.

As for the ranger... I don't want a turbo charged 4 cyl, and I cannot stand the sync system. Also hate the interiors on Fords.

Not justifying anything, just putting it out there. I didn't just wake up and say I wanted a Tacoma. Love my buddies 21 4runner.. that was a big one in my decision.

lol I was just joking! People love to say the Tacoma has a minivan engine, but who cares, it's rock solid albeit slightly under-powered.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy anything other than a Tacoma. The mid-size segment is archaic, and the Tacoma is the only one where they make that a positive. Plus, active safety is a joke on any other truck. Toyota actually takes safety seriously which I appreciate. They spend in the right areas for me and save money in others I don't care about, like electronic parking brake or shifter etc.

    You made the right choice!

Lol! I know it was a joke.

I'll tell you, I felt like a Car and Driver writer going through all of these trucks. It was the most fun I've had shopping for a vehicle. Normally I just wake up decide, "I want that..."

My biggest problem with cars/trucks today is I really just do not care for any of them. When I realized the Tacoma still sat on a tried and true, see "damn old" design... I was sold. All the bullshit they toss into these new trucks to make them more car-like ruins the truck part.

Side Note: C&D I feel like hates the Tacoma sadly, I find Edmunds to be better reporting. C&D seems to hate anything that isn't cutting-edge and drives like a Truck. Which is why they hate the Tacoma and make the RAM the best pickup.

I think Edmunds acknowledges the Tacoma's faults while being much more realistic. C&D is quite dramatic in regards to the Tacoma.

for sure man. at say, 2.49% interest over 60 months, youll pay about $2,700 in interest for the life of the loan for a $42k out-the-door trd sport.
if you put down $10,000, then youll pay $2,050 in interest. So if I told you that for $10,000 right now, you get a return of $650, paid monthly, for five years, would you take that? I bet you can invest $10,000 and make more than $650 in five years.
