I bought a 01 Tacoma at the end of May and the dealer told me they had ordered a frame for it and it should be here within 1-3 weeks but that the truck was still OK to drive. A week later I have a shop switch some wheels on it and the frame starts to crack where the rust is so I take the truck back to the Toyota shop and demand a rental until my frame arrives. It's now 5 weeks later and still no frame. How long of a wait am I really looking at here? They say they have all the parts but the frame.

depends on your area, some I have seen mention it takes 2-3 weeks after the frame is there and they are ready to work on the truck and actually do the swap.

as far as getting the frame, hell who knows but you get on the waiting list and you just have to wait because they build them as needed so they don't have them laying around ready to be shipped as needed, when they need one they start building it.

    It all depends....

You're extremely lucky that you're getting a new frame on an 01. I was under the impression the 1st gen campaign ended (kinda abruptly) and without notice. ??

My dealership told me..."We ordered a bunch of frames in January" - they gave me a 2-3 month time frame.
I'll believe it when I see it.

They kept yours? Was it that bad? I'm still driving mine.

Doesn't matter..... Whichever comes first, 2016 or new frame.

Someone else can wait (and/or) it'll be the dealerships issue after I drive off the lot with a new 2016 in fall or spring. :)

I had mine back in 3 months, it took about 8 weeks to round up all the parts and the frame wasn't even the last thing to come in.

We deal with Toyota parts department with our shop so I was pretty friendly with the parts guy, constantly got updates from him on when stuff would be arriving, there were 11 frames on back order in Canada when I dropped my truck off

Would a 99 be out of warranty for the frame recall?

Yes the warranty has expired on the 99's up to 2000 model year that era was part of a buy back program, no frame replacement on those

Nah, the 01-04 had an inspection period where if the frame was okay they sprayed it with crap and sent you on your way. After the inspection the 01-04 carry a 15 year warranty from the "in-service" date. So an 01 that was inspected in the allotted time frame would have a warranty until 2016 (depending on exact in-service date)

My buddy is a Toyota mechanic, we were just talking about this the other day. Depending when it was ordered but right now if they put a RO in the frames are on back order from the manufacture and you would be looking at 12 months plus 30 hrs after that for 2 mechanics to get it back together, or depending on the dealership 1 mechanic 60 Hrs.

Thought I would post an update. The dealership called last Wednesday and said the frame would be in on the 16th of July. Got a photo of my truck body up on the lift from the sales guy Monday. He said the frame came in early and they had started on my truck. Should have it back in a few days.
