ABSOLUTELY! AMSOIL is what i use in both my 4 runner and as soon as my tacoma needs service this is the same i will use in it. It cost a bunch but if you do the math at the end of the year it cost less than jiffy lube every 3 k miles. :D

I change the oil in my Tacoma and in my 4Runner every 7500 miles or so. I use only Toyota filters and German Lubro Moly synthetic oil. It's way better stuff than the normal domestic oils. In Europe it's apparently not uncommon for people to go 15-20k miles between changes with premium synthetics. Which I think is nuts personally but then again my dad still insists on changing his every 3k. My oil is never dark at 7500 miles and I've gone 10k a few times on my old tacoma and never saw it dark then either. i used this oil in my last 05 since 7500 miles and in my 4 Runner since 75k miles. The 05 had 102k on it when I sold it and the 4Runner has 205k on it. Neither burns a drop of oil. My FJ40 hasn't had an oil change since the fall of 2009 so it's certainly due. But it's only gone about 1500 miles since then too and the motor only has 2000 miles on it. I can't even remember how long it's been since i've changed the oil in my plow truck. But it's been years. My Mustang gets changes every 3k miles with a special Lubro Moly MOS2 anti-friction oil. It's a domestic V8 with 185k on it that runs great but really could use a rebuild. It turns it black in 3k miles and usually needs a quart added somewhere before a change.

But then again i make money when i get to do oil changes, i guess i would like everyone to stay on a 3k service interval.......BMW uses castrol full synthetic 5-30 and the factory servicde interval for those vehicles is 15k miles or once per year. As far as engine failures, it is rare to see an oil related failure, i mean i don't recall one. Most engine failures I have seen were related to overheating. It could be the block material/rings that BMW uses, but i have seen the heads removed on engines (full syn from factory) and they still have a crosshatch pattern on the bores at 150K

Overheating is right. BMW hasn't designed a cooling system that could stay together for more than 65k miles for the last 15-20 years! And most of their owners don't pay any attention to the gauges. I had a guy tell me a few years ago that his 750il was the smartest car ever. He lost his water pump driving home from work and the car overheated. "It was so smart it knew when to turn itself off." Yep it sure did. For the last time.

Consumers Reports did scientific testing using New York Taxis as subjects about 10 years ago. They basically measured parts, ran them various interaval and lubes, and then remeasured parts for wear. Should read for yourself but if I I recall correctly, the end results were a slight or marginal advantage using synthetics and no wear advantage changing oil more frequent than every 7500 and no wear advantage using Slick 50 or like additives.

As for me I use Fram or OEM filters, recommended weight oil every 5K.

Amsoil doesn't last for 35k miles... even though you didn't say it.. You still agree'd with it. BMW's fail because of the lack of knowledge people have to drive them. If you avoid any light that comes on, and don't keep up with preventative maintence AKA Inspection I, II, III.. They don't work and break.

So your information is off some random retard you saw on the street? That seems valid.

Amsoil may not last 35K miles, but that is Amsoils claim. My vehicles are driven about 6-8 k miles a year, and I change the oil at 1 year, and I change the oil filter using a factory toyota filter every 6 months and top up the oil level. Although I don't use the oil for 35k miles, I definately think that oil is changed way before it is "worn out" or "depleted" and most of us change it more than is needed. Maintenance is the key to avoiding repairs and when the maintenance is done at a regular interval small problems are found before they compound into failures.

I change mine every 6 months (usually under 5,000 miles). I do this to keep the 5 year 60K mile powertrain warranty intact. Normally I pay the dealership to do the work so they'll have records that the work was done, but lately I've gone to the quick lube place and have been just keeping the receipts.

After I hit 60K miles I'll probably do it every 5000 and let the time/duration slide a bit.
