I’ve been thinking lately that the life in my truck might be running out. I currently have an 08 DCSB with 198,680 miles and am wondering if big repairs are around the corner.

What year, mileage, and repair experience do you have?

I have a new frame on my 05 Tacoma double cab 225,000 miles and I’ve had no engine issues at all I have that slight shutter in the transmission when you takeoff but that’s just known I believe the 4.0 motor is a rock solid

I’m replacing both of my axles this weekend and it literally takes one deep socket and two regular sockets in about an hour and a half aside it’s basically garage driveway job no problem

About to hit 80k on my 2010, and I love it even more than the day I bought it with 13 miles on the odometer in Sept 2009

I think you're at the point where you should consider doing the water pump and belts. While you're in there, might as well to a wellness check on hoses & vacuum lines amongst other things. I'm sure other folks can provide more input.

It's a solid motor though, even beyond Toyota's standards. It's used around the world in Hiluxes, Land Cruisers, Prados and other vehicles. If you take care of it, it'll take care of you!

My 2007 double cab long bed has 170.000 miles. No engine problems. Got a new frame a year or so ago. New rear leaf springs l on recalls. Only problem I've had is with the door locks. Had the dealer replace drivers side now the other 3 don't work.

2008 DC 4x4 Sport 4.0 L with 186,000 miles. So far the only real issue has been the front wheel bearings. They were both replaced at different times around 120,000 miles. I do have a VERY slow leak in the AC system somewhere that no one can find (even with die in the system). The system needs to be recharged every 2 years. Other than that it's been great.

A compression / leakdown test of engine.

    Oil sample off to Blackstone

Close inspection of the frame, especially if you live in salt country.

Fail one of those significantly, might be time to shop

Pass all of them fine, keep up with regular maintenance and fix broke issues and keep driving.

It'll cost a few bucks to have this 'physical' done.

But you use a Dr for yourself, not an internet forum, correct? Why not your truck? I mean we can't touch/see/examine for you.........

2005 with 130000kms..err 80000 miles lol. I bought it 6 months ago from a 70 year old guy for 14k USD who loved it. Canopy, extra wheels, rear airbags, bed slide etc. His son owned a truck mod shop so it had tons of goodies. I also love it and think it was a great deal.
