Anyone think elevation should be taken into account

I have the same powertrain as you. summer miles: 19mpg with mixed driving. I'll take 12 gallons and my trip meter reads somewhere around 290. this summer while driving out of Alaska, I dialed it back to 54mph/1980rpms and squeezed 375 miles out of a tank. it CAN be done, you just can't be in a hurry.

Cory - seems like you should be getting better. I have an '04 4x4, I4 w/auto tranny and I get around 23 city. I suspect if I had a manual tranny, I'd be getting closer to 25.

Local commute round trip about 34 miles over somewhat hilly terrain. 6 stops routinely, but sometimes 8. Top speeds around 50 with most driving between 45-50. I'm generally around 210-220 around a 1/2 tank and 370 when the light comes on (usually has around 2 gallons left in the tank).

Apples to oranges? Don't the 2wd have smaller gas tanks than Pre Runner and 4wd? In my V6 4x4 I get ave. 20mpg x 18.5 gallon tank = 370 per tank.

You might be right. I seem to recall a couple of different tank sizes in the owners manual. But maybe just a couple of gallons different if I recall right. 20 mpgs from the V6 isn't too bad relative to the FE of the I4.

I get 250-260 usually in the summer. That is mostly city driving though. The best I ever got was 23 on a 220 mile all highway trip. Half the trip was at 55mph and a lot was downhill.

Im usually between 300-350. Sometimes i get less than 300 but its because i spend too much time pressing the skinny pedal.

I am at 240 with a 1/4 tank left. Last fill up I calculated 19.6 mpg. Not too bad. All stock with mixed driving.

I have no reason to lie. I got over 375 without the gas light coming on. It was a good day.

Yep. I'm at 5,003 ft in Colorado.

Just refilled earlier at 252 with the light on. Got about 15.8 mpg.

My best was about 26 mpg highway coming from Utah to Colorado. Had a 3 inch lift and stock tires. I followed behind my dad who was pulling a horse trailer. Made a nice windbreak :D he got like 8 in his Tundra with the filled trailer rofl

yea I got that same problem lol
And yea Ice Horse thats what I figured higher elevation means you waste more gas but I'm in colorado and get 300 miles out of my tank easy. Once my UG was showing 22mpg.

Any one here with a v6 first gen have a ultragauge hooked up

Edit: what octane is everyone using

Too funny - CEL has been on since before I bought my truck. Seller still has responsibility to get that right for me, so they replaced the gas cap and filler tube. Still throwing the codes 441, 442, and 446. Sometimes just one or the other, but usually a pair or all three. Starting to think it might be the cannister, but since it can throw the codes less 446, not certain that's it. Good luck with your evap issue. Not sure that's causing you the loss in mpg's, but it would be nice to take care of one issue while solving another.
