Put in 4.5 qrts, check level, might go to 5 qrts. I know it seems weird but mine bounced between these two amounts ? Also I found it very helpful to get a hose that is 36-38 inches long to drain the oil filter, I do this first and then the engine oil. Be mindful of which plug you unscrew, engine oil V.S. automatic transmission, many people have made this mistake. :D

I got a V6 and my first oil change took 5 quarts. You can get 5 qrts of mobil1 5W30 at wal mart for like $23. If you go to wal mart and buy this oil for this price can you come back to this post and gimme some rep?

5.5 quarts for your v6(4.0).....and jedi is talking about the nipple under the bottom part of the filter housing....i usually just use an old gatorade bottle to catch any old oil that drains out when i remove the filter.

If you have the towing option it will take 5.5 quarts, dont know about the 4.0 without it.

    Look in your owners manual.

I've got a 4.0L and the manual states 5.5qts. I have an oversized oil filter and the oil level appears low (dip stick sucks!!) - so I actually have about 6qts in it.

I've got the TRD sport V6 with tow package, 6 speed manual. When I did my last oil change. To get the oil right at the full mark on the diptick it took 5 qts of oil. I put on the standard oil filter though.

you gotta read in the parenthesis man......you are looking at liters. in parenthesis, it shows quarts and imp. quarts.

    1grfe......4 wheel drive and prerunner
5.5quarts with filter for the 4.0...without filter 5.2

fir the "mini's"(2 wheel drive, except prerunner)....1grfe....with filter 4.8 quarts, without filter 4.4 quarts.

2trfe.....with filter 6.1 quarts, without filter 5.4 quarts.

I have the V6 with tow package (coolers and all). I just changed mine at 5K about a month ago. I put back in 5.5 quarts as I use the taller OEM filter. Couldn't tell nothing when the oil was first changed it was so clean but now I can see it is leveling out right at the top "hole" location. Dipstick does suck for sure. :)

take a small piece of sandpaper to the dipstick, it will hold the oil a bit better.
