I'm not sure I follow the figures, but would the Dealer Cost be the price I'm looking to pay? I mean dealer cost plus tax, tag, title, dealer junk fee?

Invoice is where you want to be, and on a 2018 that they won’t be able to sell since 2019 are on lots, you should be able to get there.

So, let's say they can do the $30,711 invoice price, I would had the $995 destination fee. which comes out to $31,706. Subtract my $7000 trade in, and we're at $24,706. Add in the 7% sales tax and we're at $26,456. I realize I'm missing tag and title there, but would that be realistic and a good price?

I was looking at the 4x2 TRD sport, crew cab, short bed.

Yes, the pricing I posted was for a double cab short bed. I’d just tell them to give you their best pricing on the truck. And when they do tell them another dealer can do better and ask them to beat their deal. You don’t even have to have an offer from another dealer, just make one up. Let’s say they come back and say ok we’ll sell it to you for 35000 - 1000 incentive total 34k, just tell them you have an offer for 33.5k and they need to do better. You can keep going until they either stop or you get the price your comfortable with.

I'd like to add one thing. Completely disregard MSRP or any price the dealer throws at you initially. Work from the bottom up, not from the top down. It'll make things go a lot quicker. Tell them from the start- I believe your dealer cost is 31,xxx.

I was at a dealer just yesterday and after speaking with the salesman, the sales manager comes over with a printout. It listed the MSRP plus around +$480 for their advertising or some such, and get this- +$1400 markup for MAP. Market Adjusted Price! WTF! Who is gonna believe this shit?! I broke out in laughter and pushed that paper away (I was so angry I almost spelled out where he could shove that paper) and his expression was of surprise! What an actor.

With that bogus printout and my down payment, my monthly payment would have been $475. After I told him what I thought his dealer cost was, and we were going to do the dance from there, lo and behold, my payment was now $335 with the same down payment. It's mind boggling how much they try to screw the unknowing people that walk in.

That's exactly what I think is happening here. I was going to walk out with a 29k loan after putting 7k down. I guess that had me paying full MSRP. I'm thinking my loan should be about 25k. My payment was looking just like yours too.

Wow....I'm really glad I found this forum and posted this. Could have made a pretty bad mistake yesterday. I don't rule out that I can work something out with the salesman I was working with. I understand his job is to sell the truck for as much as possible, but maybe if my numbers are right, he can just tell me if he can do it or not. I just emailed him because I don't really want to get into a face to face discussion right now. Here is what I sent the guy. Hopefully, I understood what you guys were saying here.

"It's just not making sense to me Reggie. I need to see the numbers. If I were to finance 29k after getting 30k for my two trade-ins , I'm overpaying for the Tacoma. I owe $22,631 for car "A" If you're giving me 30k for both cars, that essentially means $7,369 is what I'm getting for car "B" which is paid off. So, I'm financing 29k AFTER you've subtracted $7369 from the price? That means that if I didn't have that $7639 trade in, I'd be paying $36,369 for the truck.

I want to pay Invoice for the truck....which is $30,712.00. Please give me something in writing so I can see how you're getting to $36,369 from that invoice of $30,712.

    My thinking right now is:

    $30,712 Invoice Price
    +995 Destination Fee

= $31,707.....best price you can do on the truck before taxes, tag....etc (I have my own tag)

    $31,707
    -$7,369 (car "B" Trade in)

=$24,338 (Truck Price after Trade in factored in)
    +$1,703 (Sales Tax)

    $26, 041......What I should be financing.

There's also the $1000.00 Holiday cash, we we really could end up at 25k being all that I have to finance.

Let me know if you can do this.

    Thanks,

I posted my deal earlier this week. First truck purchase since 2002.
For those looking for advice/tactics, this is what I found worked for me...it's a free market so your results may vary.
Also, my brother works as a factory sales/marketing rep providing sage advise.
Long story short, my initial offer was always 15% off Monroney Sticker Price (MSRP). The challenge is getting a dealer to take that deal on a truck you want.

    Process:
My buying process revolved around the fact (news flash for me) that Invoice pricing is a fictitious number.
It's a conditioning tool generated to make you feel better about the price you pay.
So, once you come to terms with that you can work your best deal.
Monroney Sticker Price (MSRP) is the number I used to work a deal.
Reason being, it's generated by the manufacturer and mandated by the Federal Government.
Everything else is just a made up number by the dealer.
Arguably, MSRP is a made up number but you have to start somewhere.
I read one study that said % Gross Profit built into window sticker purposely decreased since 1995.
    Example: 1995 4Runner was 15.5% and decreased to 8% in 2013.
Study said the decrease is designed by the car industry to fight easy internet access to dealer pricing...basically hiding profit.
Of note, the example a couple of post above states Tacoma invoice is about 7.2% below MSRP.
So, I used 15% as my initial offer...some dealers wouldn't respond but those that did all initailly say no.
Good sales people will follow-up because they want to make a sale.
Just deal with them via email and text. Don't go back to the dealer until the sticker price is established.
I worked the truck price first, no trade, and didn't discuss any other offers / initiatives until sticker price was established.
    Good Luck with the game.

Paid just over $36k for my super white 2018 TRD OR Premium 4x4 DCLB w/ Tech Pkg and Floor Mats. I feel pretty good about it.

We leased it, so that’s everything but tax... you pay the tax monthly on the lease fee.

Just wanted to get a quick opinion on a price.

2018 DCSB TRD OR 6MT it's used with just under 3000 miles. They have it listed on their website at 33,500. That's barely under MSRP for a new 2019. It has a tri-fold tonneau and side steps which I don't care much about. Any thoughts on the price? I know these don't loose value, but I can't see paying that for a used truck. I was thinking of offering 30-31k.

That's what I was thinking. I offered 31 if they can't go that low, I'll probably look at a new one instead. It's crazy how these keep their price even used.

Don’t know Illinois so I might not be a lot of help. I got mine in CA because every where in AZ they wanted at 3k-5k more. Hell one of the dealers told me a MT would be 1k more since they were hard to get.

Was that OTD with tax, title, etc? Or is that just the price for the truck?

Tech package and all weather mats. Blazing blue.

    MSRP 38108
    Negotiated to 32270
    499 dealer fee + 167 reg fee.

OTD would be just under 35000

Going back with trade in tomorrow and will pull the trigger if I get a reasonable offer.
