Are there any major differences between 2018 vs 2019? Are there any major changes coming soon (new generation coming)?

    Former owner of 2012 & 2008 Tacoma.

Changes between 2018-2019 that I know of....

Driver's side storage compartment in the bed is gone. Go Pro mount is gone. Calvary Blue added as a color. Inferno is gone. Safety packages are now standard. 1.9% financing only available on 2018s, not on 2019s. $500 Cash Back and $500 Rebate available on both 2018 and 2019 models (must be applied to down payment as far as I know).

Not sure of any other changes. Oh, the TRD Pro is now Voodoo Blue... --lol.

How do you go about securing 1.9%? I just committed to a 2018, doing financing paperwork on Friday. I thought it was at 3.9%. Credit is around 810.

Financing rate depends on length of loan. Financing and rebates can also be a regional thing. Three dealers said 4.9% financing on either a '18 or '19, including where I'm buying. Two of them wouldn't shop around to get me better. The dealer I'm buying at matched my credit union's rate- 3.9% on a 72 month loan.

    My credit union was 1.9% for a 48 month term, 2.9% 60 months, 3.9% 72 months.

Cash back on an '18 was $750, all through the Black Friday sales weekend.

Above comment applies to NY Metro region and Philadelphia region. I shopped in both.

Rates vary from one bank to another. Credit Unions usually are the lowest. Dealers will quote you higher even if they can do lower. One dealer I spoke with started out at 5.7% without even checking my credit.

Rates also vary as to length of loan. Shorter loans have better rates. But of course, your payment will be higher.

OTD is deceiving as is the negotiated sales price... reason being is that taxes and license rates vary from state to state, dealers will often heavily discount a truck only to make it up in finance costs, extended warranties, maintenance plans, transfer and document fees, and manufacturer incentives and rebates and then there is interest....

For example, I just bought a 2019 DCSB OR 4x4 with Tech Package, weather mats, and door seal protectors. The MSRP was $38,528.00. To begin with, even this number is BS... there was a $20 difference on the floor mats from one exact same truck to another...

I negotiated that truck down to $33,950.00 after days of haggling and other dealer comps. I literally went to 8 different dealerships. I put $10,000 down on the truck. They ran my credit and the Exqifax report came back 822. They initially offered me 6.99% financing on the balance. I showed them two pre-approvals from my bank and my credit union; one at 4.56% and another at 4.25% for 60 months. I then asked if they could do better. They told me the best Toyota could do was 4.99%. I told them that the sales manager had initially offered me 3.99% and showed the a photo of the offer (take pictures of everything). Of course the truck was at a much higher price at that point. We haggled some more and I got the interest rate down to 3.69% for 60 months. Komiforia charged me $3,310 in taxes and licensing fees, then $110 for online registration and document fees and I was up to $37,360.00 OTD. BUT, then you have to add the interest paid to Toyota of $2644.00 and my TOTAL COST WAS $39,000 for the truck...

Point is, it’s all a huge negotiation... from the cost of the truck, to finance, to warranty, to maintenance plans, to trade in, to document fees and the dealer’s cost for the truck is not the same from dealer to dealer.

You have to leave the interest paid of the vehicle off since people want to have an idea of what the dealership is selling the car for.

Joe smoltz could be paying cash or Jane could be financing the car for 7 years with 10% note. The way you are calculating you might as well add the gasoline price in calif :(.

I disagree. people here are posting what price they negotiated and others are getting frustrated that they can't get that price at their dealer. It IS deceiving because some pay cash, some pay one finance rate and some pay another rate, some trade in a vehicle, etc. Almost every deal is different. Joe might negotiate a sweet price off of MSRP, but the dealer lowballs him on his trade and makes 5 grand extra there. Joe might have gotten 10% off list, told everyone here, but he still got hosed by the dealer.

Say a Tacoma lists for $39,000. Sam negotiates and pays $36,000 cash and gets his truck. Barry "gets it for less" $35,000 but puts nothing down and finances it all at 5.7% (an actual rate one dealer gave me before I spoke up and objected) Barry winds up paying $41,408. Sally gets hers for the same $35,000 selling price but has better credit and her credit union is having a special and she finances the whole price at a rate of 2.9% so the truck costs her $38,175. This is why cash isn't king anymore. And why one person's negotiated price can't be had by a different buyer all the time.

There should be only one lowest sale price independent of financing or any trade-in.

I'm the dealer. You're a newb. I sell you a $40K Tacoma for $33K (you post here how you're the King Of Negotiating and the GREAT deal you got it for) but you don't mention that I also screwed you for $5K on your trade, and I also slip in a high interest rate on the finance end that nets me another $4500. Is the truck costing you $34K?

Can someone else here then walk into a dealer in another state and get that truck for $33K without a trade? No. But you make them feel they're treated unfairly by their dealer because they couldn't walk in and get the truck for $33K.

I always say there's 3 parts to a deal. The negotiated price. The trade-in value. The finance rate. A dealer isn't going to let you "win" on all 3. He might let you leave thinking you "got him" on the negotiated price, or the trade, but he's going to profit somewhere on at least two parts.

That's my point. The lowest sale price, trade-in value, and financing should be three separate and independent transactions. Of course, one always can get more selling a vehicle themselves instead of as a trade-in.

I see you're not getting my point. I'm not saying the buyer got less just because he traded in, I'm saying the dealer really lowballed him to $5K less than he should have offered for the trade. Agreed on sale price is not valid if there's 2 other parts to the deal. I can post here that I got 15% off MSRP and you're all morons if you only got 5-10% off. But if the dealer screwed me both on my trade and on the financing, for say, $7500 more than I should have paid, who's the moron?
Agreed on sale price of 15% off MSRP meant nothing in this instance and can't be used as a basis for others to reach a deal with their dealer.

Seems like a decent deal. The discount is approx 10% off MSRP, and you also have the rebate. As long as they don't add a bunch of fees when they write up the deal, it seems good.

That's what the dealer would like you to believe... and if you want to believe it, fine by me.

I'd actually say that there are at least five stages of negotiations for buying a new car:

    1) Sales price of the car
    2) Money down, paid in full, or trade-in
    3) Financing
    4) Warranties and maintenance plans
    5) Document fees, shipping and handling

At EACH stage of the game, you have to negotiate.

Finally, I have two friends that bought FJ Cruisers a few years back. My buddy who financed his got a great deal on the sales price. My other buddy who wanted to pay cash up front for the vehicle couldn't get the same deal. Why? He didn't finance it.

Looking at what some of y'all are paying for these trucks, I feel like I overpaid when my '17 SR V6 Double Cab 4X4 was $33,000 OTD.

So, as of right now, the OTD price (including taxes, tag, and everything) is $34,244. $2397 of that is the sales tax, so the vehicle price is $31,846.00. That sounds pretty decent. Again, it's a 2019 TRD Sport, Cement, 2x4, SB, Auto, with Tech pkg (Entune Premium).

I hate haggling....my BP has been through the roof. It shouldn't be so difficult.

I got a very similar deal on my 17 for that price. My MSRP was 34799 and I pulled 32000 before ttt. Other people might do better but I thought I did well. This took place in September 17
