Dealer tried to pull that crap on me when I bought Tundra. I told that I had already agreed on price with sales and they finally took it off. Are you sure that is not the delivery fee? $899 is pretty close to what I recall for delivery on Tacoma.

39,579.62 is invoice on a 17 4x4 DCSB OR with premium & tech pack (HH-2,004.00 invoice) and a tonneau cover (TC-559.00 invoice) a black out package (BP-275.00 invoice) other options BL, MF, TL, R4 price should be really close on an 18 problem is getting a dealer to play ball right now on an 18 with 17s still plentiful.

True, getting dealers to play ball wasn't easy. However, I was able to order my truck and the options I wanted at $1,000 below invoice. Now I just need to wait.

this comment probably won't be very popular but remember when you are beating up the dealer its a double edged sword.
One of the many reasons i love tacomas is because of how well they hold their value. when all the dealers are willing to sell their trucks for less to compete the truck becomes worth less and residuals change and what not. theres nothing wrong with getting a fair price don't get me wrong, not all of us salesmen are bad guys haha

Why is hunting for the best price I can find considered "beating up the dealer"? I'm curious.

What about the 1000's of others that get "beat up" BY the dealer with overinflated prices?

I'd say I'm just being a smart consumer. I make no apology for that. It's capitalism.

Edit: I am not trying to be a dick, either. I just want to use your logic as well that it goes both ways. Both the dealer and the buyer are both trying to maximize their deal.

Getting the best price has nothing to do with resale. Supply and demand does. Dealers have a number of tools to make money on a sale...adds, financing, warranties, service...etc. As a consumer, we have only one bargaining chip...Price. If it's a quality product and it has created lots of demand, we are that much better off when we go to resell. So far, I have to say, 3rd gens are lacking in this department. I'm not sure if it's the higher prices of the vehicles in general, or the number of taco's Toyota is putting on the market, but resale numbers are nothing like they were for 2nd gens. I pulled the trigger on my second third gen (reluctantly). If the market for used taco is this bad in another two years, I'll only be buying something else or start buying newly used and let the the new ones stack on the lots. See what happens to your margins when your inventory isn't moving. You will wish you had someone to haggle price with. :)

If anything, getting the best price is more important than ever unless you really want to lose your shirt when you go to sell. I can't recall ever getting much more than 1 or 2k off my 2nd gen tacos, but I also can't recall ever losing more than losing 1 or 2k a year on the investment.

Many people can just walk into a store and happily pay full MSRP on a product. But personally, when I'm forking out $40k+ on a product, I negotiate hardcore and use patience and competition to my maximum advantage. But for every person like me there's probably a lot of others who don't do this. So I don't cry too many tears for dealers. They make their money, just not a lot from me!

"Beating up" the dealer is probably the wrong term to use- I'm just on the other side and are used to getting the beating. Haha! By no means am I trying to be a dick- I just see things from a different perspective. At the end of the day, the best way to get the best deal is for you to walk in educated on prices and be respectful and nice to your salesmen. And I know salesmen have a bad rep- but that's a stereotype- not all of us. Most of us only make $150 on a deal- and we don't have a salary- that's it.

I'm a pretty easy going guy and if you know what you are talking about and are willing to treat me with some respect I will make things easy.

Capitalism is exactly right. In the same respect don't be mad at a dealer for trying to make money.

Tincan- What a customer is willing to pay for a vehicle will directly impact what a dealer is willing pay for it when you trade it in.

(again not being a dick haha)

Hey brother, I strongly agree with treating the salesperson with respect at all times. Most are good people. I come armed with knowledge, treat them nicely, and hopefully come to a mutual agreement on a deal. If not then I do not hesitate to walk away. I do not waste their time or mine. And profit is not a dirty word. I do not begrudge their attempts to get the most profit because I do the same. We are both it in to get a good deal. It's not personal. It's business.

Fair enough - But "Willing to pay" = Demand. It's a two way street. And you are right from a dealers perspective, only a foolish dealer will pay more than he knows he can get at auction. I'm speaking to a bigger the issue. Tacoma's have never seen the kind of depreciation they have seen with the third gens, and for guys like me who have become accustomed to trading-up to a new Tacoma or 4runner every few years it's been a little bit of a shock. Who knows how this will pan out in the long term, but right now it's not good for either side. If you were selling 2nd gens not too long ago, I'm sure you have a very good sense of what I'm talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if Corporate starts slowing production soon. I think it's a supply side problem. But then, there are people much smarter and more informed than me making those decisions.

I love(ed) my 2016 and will probably enjoy the same dependability in my 2018, but there is no doubt the market has changed.

And yes, the good sales guys work extraordinarily hard for their commissions and bonuses. They deserve respect any person should get, but I wouldn't be afraid to call out anyone playing silly games to make a sale. Again, that's a two way street.

DISCLAIMER: After recently dealing with both good and bad dealers...I'm venting.

Was lucky to get 31.5K for a fully loaded 7544 Prem+Tech. Lots on the market right now.

I'll be paying 38.4K for my Cement 7544 with OF,TP. (Well within dealer margin and holdback)

I lost 6.5K over 29K Miles and 2 years. That figures to about 18-20% (Excluding Taxes). That used to be a 3 or 4 year number.

I probably shouldn't complain too much. Doing the math, that's about $.22 a mile and I write a lot more than that off for business use.

    LOL seriously?

I have emailed 30 dealers + and got MSRP or even under $1000 under MSRP. I never tried to pit any dealer with each other or even tried to "beat up" a dealer for a decent deal. I've had one dealer go $1000 under invoice without even bargaining or dealing with them. They straight up put the cost of what they expected me to pay in the email and i agreed to the cost. If more dealers did that then maybe we wouldn't have to deal with "am i getting a good deal on this" threads on here... I understand that sales people make a living off commission but maybe the dealers should pay more to sales people instead of having them off what they sell.. dealers are the ones making all the money from toyota/sales.....

    stop trolling.

Nice! Congrats. I like the new finish of the Limited trim's grill. I'm jealous the passenger side floor mat has retention clips now. Looks a bit beefier too.
