if i told you that the truck spent 9/10'ths of its life in a southeastern state (because it has), would you change your stance? just curious how much this would make a difference..

I appreciate your info, but in all honesty, a stock truck on KBB is worth more than 4k, so your not making much sense. if you add even HALF of the extras that this truck has, plus all the factory extras.. i cant see getting under $5500, and thats ME being generous..

You usually don't get nearly the return on "extra's" as what you paid for them. To be honest, when I am looking at used vehicles I look for as close to stock as I can get, because then I know it hasn't been messed with.

Mods don't really affect the value. The reason my figure is so low is because you're in New Jersey. Now if you were in Florida, I'd say maybe $4,500. There's a higher demand for 4x2 trucks there. The main thing though is the miles.

Also what it's worth and how much you'll get for it are two different things. ;)

I'd say it's MAYBE worth $5,000 but realistically if you want to sell it with that many miles in New Jersey, I'd start at $4,250.

How come when I do the KBB I get $3885 for excellent condition, private party value? That's a huge difference.

i beg to differ.. mods DO affect the value.. They might not be 1:1.. but theres no way that putting parts on a vehicle doesnt bring the price up.. Trust me, ive been modding vehicles and selling them for 13 years..

First statement is absolutely true.. but there you go referencing the miles again.. KBB does ASK for the miles for a reason.. (and also the Zip code)

because the truck has alot of extras, AND the zip code DOES matter, as stated above.. But as i also stated (and it was ignored) is that vehicles in NJ usually sell for an inflated rate due to the high rate of travel and economics in the state

The same truck might sell for 8k in ButtFuck, Oklahoma but sell for 9k in Jersey.. it happens

There IS a way that putting parts on a vehicle doesn't bring the price up. A lot of people that mess with their vehicles, putting mods on and what not, think they know what they're doing when they really don't. I'm not saying you are one of those people, but when someone is buying a used vehicle from you, they never know. Mods can actually decrease the value IMO. My brother is a mechanic and specializes in Toyota's. Recently when I was looking for a used Tacoma (and he would come check them out for me) anything that had engine/performance modifications he immediately said "nope, don't get it, move on." Because you never know what someone screws up when they do that crap, and certain mods, like aftermarket intakes, can actually hurt your engine.

This is why I said I look for the most stock vehicle I can find. Not everyone takes this approach, though. Like I said, we won't know what your truck is worth until it is sold. It's worth whatever someone will pay for it, regardless of what KBB says.

Don't know why you are arguing about the price on here. You asked for opinions and got them. Anyway it is my opinion that mods don't ad much value when buying a used vehicle. If I were a buyer looking to purchase a used Taco and there were 2 of the same trucks for sale and one came with aftermarket wheels and stereo for 2-3 grand more, I would be buying the stock one for less.

I agree...some mods will help but the majority of the time the mods I have seen on a vehicle most always decrease the value.

Not saying I understand this principle but thats wat happens most of the time.

that kelly blue book value is pretty realistic. If it was a 4x4 obviously you could ask more, around 7-8. But thats still pushing it. You could buy an extended cab 4x4 with 150,000+ miles for for 7-8000. But because its only a reg cab, and 4x2 5-6 is what you should expect. Post it up for say 6500 and try to stay firm with it. You buy mods for what you want, not what every other buyer wants. The mods (if they look good) will just set your truck appart and give you more potential buyers, not nessessarily increase the value.

I agree wit most of what you just said. Thank you sir

And to touch on your last sentence about mods..

I didn't do any outrageous mode to change the trucks look completely. I added alot of OEM stuff (new oem grill, oem headlights, oem black bumper) and stuff to clean it up (red and clear tails, clear corners as the stock ones broke)..

What im trying to say is, I wasn't tying to nescessarily "Mod" it as much as I was front to "clean it up"..

The only mods that might be subjective are the tints, bushwacker fender flares, and the rims/tire combo.. I dunno. I think it flows well. hehe

If you call constructive criticism arguing, then you obviously haven't been around Forums for very long :)

BTW, thats a 5speed, its in great shape though. I prefer my brand new rims and tires to those stock rims/tires and rusted rear bumper :)

BTW, sorry for "argueing with you"
