    Here are the specs:

    One owner
    2005 DCSB
    53k miles
    V6
    4x4
    Auto
    TRD Off Road
    JBL
    Tow Pkg
15,000 miles on BFG A/Ts that looked brand new

I went and test drove it and it has a few very minor nicks here and there, but no dents or major scratches, although just under the front bumper had some scrapes in the paint.

Everything worked great except the compass/temp gauge was broken and the rear TSB had not been done.

Said he was selling because he bought a full-size pickup (2012 Silverado), which was parked in his garage...right next to his Defender 90...

The guy is asking $24k, which is sky high, but before I could even ask if the price was negotiable he said it was, and that his price seemed a bit high because no one else had even called on it, and that the KBB price seemed inflated to him, but Edmunds seemed too low.

I was thinking of offering $20k. I don't want to insult the guy, but I want to get a good deal. For some reason 4x4 Tacomas usually sell for a premium around here.

What does TW think I should offer?

Last year I sold a super cherry 2009 with very low miles (maybe 20K) to a TWer for less than what your guy wants ...

    $20K with working compass.

At $25K you're not far from buying a newer/lower mileage like-new Taco equally equipped.

    IMO

Offered the guy $20k...he laughed and said a dealer had offered him $21.5k...so I told him "Great! If a dealer offered you that much you should go for it!" and suddenly he said, well, let me think about it...

I immediately went down to the local Toyota dealer, told the salesman I want no BS, I have $20k to put down, and told him exactly what I wanted and was willing to pay, test drove the exact '12 DCSB I want except the wrong color (it was silver, I want MGM) and he said they could have it for me in 2 days at invoice price + $289 for TTL...and if I can find my grad school acceptance letter I'll get another $1k off from TFS if I finance through them. No brainer.

Thought about it a little, and decided to go with the Silver Mica, so went back to the dealership today.

Let's just say that the salesman who told me invoice yesterday wasn't trying to sell me a truck today. Must have been because it was the first day of the month rather than the last (yesterday).

I was willing to go $259 over invoice to make it an even $31k, but they wouldn't budge below $400 after almost an hour of "let me go talk to my sales manager BS."

I would have gone for it had I found my acceptance letter, but couldn't find it, so no $1000 rebate.

    So, no truck yet.

Always keep in mind you're in the drivers seat, you can always wait to make the deal but they need it to put food on the table. These days the buyer has the upper hand, if they're educated, don't give in.

wow.. thats super high, when I bought my 2002 in 09 for 14k .. there was an 06 v6 ext cab 6 speed 4x4 for 15k...

Was tempting but I like the older gens much better.

So an 05 for anything more than 16k is ridiculous.

I live in a weird vortex where people willingly pay too much for certain cars and trucks, Tacoma 4x4s being one of them...I was probably a huge hassle for them to deal with because I'm fairly knowledgeable about the new car buying process. They're used to idiots who come in and want a brand new car at $X monthly payment and don't care what the final $ amount costs.

I'm probably going to have to go up to Portland, OR to get the deal I want.

As for that X-Runner...I would be sorry if I bought one and tried to drive it around PNW logging roads, the mountains, the beach and Death Valley...
