We’ll see if anyone doing this mod makes it this far down the thread....

1st, Thanks OP for the write-up! Huge help.

2nd, I tweaked a couple things cause it made more sense (to me).

While doing the 400W anytime mod I also did the add-an-outlet mod. Found a decent dual USB and dual 110v outlet on fleabay for $10
    34DA84A4-CDF9-44F4-B869-AEA1E0C03FF9.jpg

Instead of cutting the HOT WHITE and NEUTRAL BLUE wires coming out of the inverter I pulled the pins out of the plug. Next, I soldered the new HOT and NEUTRAL wires from the add-an-outlet to the pins in a way I could re-install into the plug. No cutting or tapping. The GROUND from the add-an-outlet was attached to an existing grounding point with a ring connector.

I cut the PINK wire next to the grounding point and soldered to the existing small (20 gauge?) white/black ground wire.

Instead of cutting and capping the PURPLE wire I removed the pin from the plug and taped to the wiring harness.

With not much more effort you could probably avoid cutting the pink wire too...making it an even more reversable mod. This was still simpler for me than adding a bunch of T-taps/caps/splices.

I took and wired my inverter to a plug inside the truck. Then I installed a 1500 watt inverter and had it run to the plug in the rear of the bed. So I have A/C in the cab and a large A/C supply in the bed. I use it to cook with my electric skillet when I am fishing or camping.
plug.jpg Here is a photograph I took of the Electrical plug I installed in my truck.

Where did you mount the 1500W inverter?

I mounted it under the drivers seat, because i have a uhf/vhf/hf radio under the passingers seat . Plus its easy to reach down and turn it on until i get my remote switch for it.

Does that mean it only has 400 watts?

Does doing this mod make the outlet in the bed unusable?

No, bed outlet still works. You’re just splicing off the same wires. However I would not recommend running anything off both outlets at the same time.

I was a little worried when I first did this but I double checked and bed outlet def still works.

Would using this to power a playstation 3 for long trips run down the battery over time? assuming you had a playstation 3 running for 15-16 hours while driving from texas to colorado/utah. I was able to use the anytime backup camera mod and wire a playstation to the stock head unit. I just need to find a way to power it while driving. It will not stay on with 100w, but will with 400w. i only had it running it for about 15 minutes.

Just a quick thanks to the OP.

I did the 400w anytime mod today and added a dual outlet with USB ports inside my console.
    Works like a charm !

This is what I’m wondering, too.

With this mod, anyone know if the 400W works even with the truck off?

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
So ... I can't find a thread, but I'm sure there is one so flame away and post the link .... but how do I replace the factory inverter? Mine seems to output < 1W now. No fuses blown, just a trickle of power. So I want to know what to pull and if I can replace it with any 400W inverter or if it needs to be a Toyota inverter.

Anyone have any problems long term, now it's been 3 years or so?
