how to change sparkplugs 2TR-FE

    i got these couple months ago from oreillys this is what they said was compatable, just dont want to buy the denso's after i spent the money on these ;/ im sure they will be fine right?

    I wouldn't.
    There's a lot of snake oil going with spark plugs, including the E3 abortions.

    Multiple electrodes are for the most part worse than the plugs that the factory intended. Some combustion chambers handle them okay, others, the extra electrodes just end up shielding the charge from the spark.

    Bosch Platinum 4+ are a frequent source of complaints in many engines.

    did mine last night. super easy.

    picked up some denso iridium, but it looks like they aren't exactly the same part number.

    stuck them in anyways. not to concerned.

    i will say, the ones that came out, were the cleanest plugs i've ever pulled out of any car. just a little bit of light white build up on the electrodes.

    Thanks. So color and gap were still good. Guess there is no reason to change them any earlier then the 100,000 recommendation. If you have time pics would be nice.

    Just tuned mine up today. Bought the truck at about 75K and im just shy of 120K. Called a mechanic a while back and they said wait until 120K. Took a road trip yesterday for a wedding that ate up way to much fuel. Runs a lot smoother now. This is so easy to do there is no sense in waiting as long as i was told to. Also side note, while your elbow deep in the tune up cleaning the throttle body is recommended as you basically expose it to get to the plugs anyways. Mine was pretty dirty.

    Little throttle body cleaner sprayed on a microfiber towel. Wipe the butterfly around the perimeter inside and out, and wipe the bore where the butterfly rests.

    Next few restarts, expect a high idle until the ECU relearns where the proper idle point is.

    Just did mine at 93K and can say ditto to what 81shark saw on his plugs. Thought about a pic, but honestly they looked pretty much exactly the same. Bought Denso plugs from the dealer and the part numbers matched exactly.

    Did this too for the first time. Noticed a little high idle on my first start up/check out drive. But all seems well.

    My MPGs had dropped to the 19.5 to 20.2 range over the last 2 months. Looking to get back in a consistent 20 to 21 range. :notsure:

    Snugtop cab high canopy.
    I bought my 2009 Single Cab Tacoma with 2.7L 4 last February with 66,000 miles on it.
    I was skeptical about spark plugs lasting 100,000 miles so I pulled them and inspected them. They were clean and not eroded so I gapped them and put them back in. Denso Iridium plugs.

    Yes I agree those spark plugs look great, and it appears that they were installed without anti-seize... I could be wrong, but they look very compound-free all the way up the threads. Most plug manufacturers say that a shiny silver plating on the threads is a zinc or nickel plating that prevents seizing or galling, and no anti-seize is required. If the threads are dark or black, that indicates no plating is present and anti-seize is recommended. I'm doing some research before replacing my plugs and this information is pretty consistent among the manufacturers. The Denso SK20HR11 plugs spec'd for my 2006 2.7 have the shiny plating and I don't plan to use any anti-seize. I guess my final decision will be determined by what appears when the old ones are removed.
