OK, so I never saw anyone mention separating the PCV - valve cover breather from the intake. That's what's fouling up the valve body and one of the first things you need to do on an early emissions rig. Just realized how bad mine was on a newly bought truck and yanked/capped that hose. Putting an end filter on the breather.

By the way, lets optimize the air, spark and fuel ratio of the engine and then introduce a bunch of blowback motor oil into the intake. Makes perfect sense.

C'mon man, this thread is how old and nobody mentioned this? This is a classic mod for any car having the PCV recirculation system whereby gases, 'and oil' are introduced from the valve cover directly before the throttle body, supposedly controlled by a valve which prevents the oil/sludge. It's one of the earliest emmission "innovations". Most classic car guys who don't want this shit in the throttle body pull the hose off and put a breather filter on it.

Think I might have answered my own question...

The more vacuum that is kept in the crankcase keeps the pressure from bulding up and blowing seals out as well making splash oiling not work the way it was designed to. Lots of pressure made when you move pistons up/down in a sealed environment @ 4-6ooo rpm......constant vacuum keeps the pressure and turbulence in the crankcase to a minimum. Drag cars run sealed systems with vacuum pumps for this reason...

Sure is annoying though, all that oil in the intake. Guess I'll just try to find some PCV valves that don't suck - or blow as the case may be.

I was told at 140000 I probably shouldn't clean the TB. Otherwise I could expose how worn-out everything really is and make the truck idle high. Hmm. Thoughts

I have a 96 with a quarter million miles and I just cleaned mine. Now it idles high. Not sure what to do now. It was idling fine before, wish I hadn't screwed with it

I would throw an OBDII reader in, even if you don't have a check engine light on. I had a similar issue and decided to toss the OBDII reader in with no check engine light problems. Code P0120 popped up...Throttle Position Sensor. Maybe try cleaning or replacing the TPS. Cleaning the MAF sensor might help too.

I've heard this about 1st generation manuals. Depending on what year yours is...maybe 2011... Toyota has made it much easier to remove TBs and clean them when needed with minimal headaches.

Thanks. I didn't have that code. I ended up correcting it with the washer on throttle body trick that I read about. It still takes a long time (until the engine is completely warm) for the idle to be back down to 750rpm. I don't know if this is just going to be normal with all the miles or because of replacing my precat O2 with a non OEM one that is a little smaller

Yeah, doesn't look like the same part. Definitely could be the issue. Also, I've seen forums where people will replace the post-cat as well when replacing the pre-cat. I don't remember why.

Old thread.. that was on my lady's 2002. My 2011 is actually only at 99k, myself. But thanks.
