If you read more you’ll see he hasn’t engaged his 4x4 in months, Toyota recommends at least once monthly to avoid the leaks. FJ T-Case has nothing to do with front diff leaking at seal. Leaking at seal also has nothing to do with this mod, I’m not exactly sure why he said that.

Its happening either way haha, just ordered my twin sticks a few hours ago, and picking up the case from the junk yard this week. Just trying to decide if I want to get rid of the ADD as well. Mildly concerned about my girlfriend bumping the 4WD sticks or something when driving, and mashing gears cause the ADD isnt engaged and the truck is moving.

Considering making some sort of actuator-lock so that the sticks wont move unless the switch/actuator is disengaged

Person i was responding to asked if having the propshaft spinning full time would cause excess wear on the tcase front output. That leak was the only wear/side effect i've had since doing the mod almost 1.5 years ago.

People have also wondered if fuel mileage takes a hit. I'd say no. 6" lift, 285's and a URD supercharger, I can almost get 16mpg if i'm taking it easy.

I stand corrected, I'm the guy who didn't read enough lol  I didn't read t-case, I thought you were referring to seal at carrier diff and cv axle. That's what I get for getting on TW while drinking

It’s not going to shift into 4WD from a bump. You’re pulling towards you to shift from 2WD to 4WD anyway.

Pushing to go from H to L. That’s not happening without being in N.

    You’re good to go man.

Finished mine over the weekend, a little aesthetic work may be needed but overall I’m super happy with this. The switch next to the usb/aux tab controls my add, I’ve honestly just left it locked I can’t tell a difference driving it this way.

Looks good. I can’t tell a difference either. Another reason I went ahead and just did the FJ tube.

IMO, doing the FJ T-case swap, and not doing the tube, takes a simple process and complicates it. Now, I just shift. Simple & no actuators to fail.

you dont have to do the tube swap. you could just pull it off and slide the actuator over to engage and leave it unplugged.

I agree and plan to in the future but my wife was already irritated with the amount of time I was outside, and I didn’t feel like throwing another $350 out in parts. To be brutally honest, pulling apart that side of the diff is something I’ll need more motivation for. The t case was easy as hell, took 2.5 hours total to be operational (minus switch wiring).

In the past month, I’ve added an ARB bumper, new front suspension (done twice cuz 886’s were way too much for my truck), and this t case swap. All by myself in the cold, usually between 10pm and 2am. Wife’s been pissed a lot lately lol

I hear all of that lol.

I’m lucky, as I have a heated space, a spare rig to drive, and a Wife with her own wheeling rig that I work on.

She can’t really say anything, because I’m usually trying to get something ready for a trip that we will BOTH enjoy.

Solid wife. I’ve been trying certain brainwashing techniques to no avail. I should probably buy her a cheap rig to rip up with so she gets it lol

Anyway how long did it take you to do the tube total? I just hate hammering out cvs.

Just don’t do what I did, and get her a rig that’s more capable than yours... :(

Hard to say. It didn’t take me long at all, as I already had my front suspension and axles off for a refresh at the same time.

Not sure if its been mentioned here. Rocksolidtoys.com has an excellent write up for the twin sticks mod. Super easy is you are even moderately mechanically inclined.
Apparently the forum is being worked on atm.
Nothing better than the twin sticks. Pretty awesome doing trails in 2lo locked and getting through where everyone is 4x4 open.

When I eventually get my rear locked, this will be on the table. At some point I’ll need 4.88’s anyway just a matter of the expense of it atm. Come to think of it, that will be the opportune time to do the axle tube and a twin stick, since I’ll have to have the front diff and driveshafts off, might as well yank the t case and get into that.

If I did it that way, I’d start twitching every time I thought about it. Which would be often.
