Awesome, makes sense i figured it was reading a missing circuit somewhere and thats what was causing it. So basically i can just take my old actuator off the diff tube and plug it back in and then just shove it up under the truck somewhere and secure it?

yup you've got it. Just make sure it's not going to get tangled up in by the CV axle down there or too close to the exhaust.

I was going to say the same, plug in the actuator and stick it in a bag and zip tie it somewhere

How many people have actually broken an ADD shaft? I've only seen reports of 2 failures and a rumor someone else broke one in snow.

I’m the only one I know of, I’m sure plenty of others have though. It’s the fuse of the modern Toyota 4x4 system.

I'm curious how many have failed, I worded my previous post kind of weird, you and I are the only ones I've actually seen break one.

Your failure is odd, as far as everything I've seen the birfield spline shaft should fail way before the ADD shaft. I wager a buck yours had a manufacturing defect.

that could be. I was thinking the same thing once I got everything fixed up. Even if the shaft itself hasn’t failed it’s much simpler to rid yourself of the electronic BS. one actuator will cost you the entire FJ setup. I haven’t had any problems since but also haven’t gotten my front end in that bad of a bind since then.

I think more people are swapping to this setup to rid themselves of the electronics vs replace a broken half shaft.

Yeah, I've been paranoid about showing up to a trail hours away from home and having the actuator fail. It'll be nice to get rid of all the electrical stuff and not have to worry about any of it failing.

So the OP describes using the MT version of the tube + components. For us AT guys, do we use the same part # as the OP? Read 6 pages and didn't see anything about this. Thansk!

    A thing or two...
The conversion in the OP will work on an automatic.

The parts referenced in the OP are from a manual transmission FJ Cruiser. The transfer case that he's bolting them to is from an automatic FJ Cruiser. The front diff is the same; it doesn't matter if it's an FJC or a Taco or if it's manual or automatic.

I can just report back that after doing this write up and installing the mod and 3.5 years later there all no downsides to it. My 4wd hasn’t given me a lick of trouble now that there’s no electronics involved.

you’ll need to do the “locker anytime” mod and it will.

Hey guys, I have a question... so if you decide to get a complete FJ front diff and swap the tube to the Tacoma, what is the process?

The opposite of my writeup in the 1st post. And you'll need to source a stub shaft.
