Almost 3 years now and still going strong! One of many incredibly remote trips we wish lasted longer. This is just south of the Sierra Ancha Wilderness in AZ.

Still need to take it off and seal it up (meh, it never rains in here). I promise I’ll do that this summer and give a good inspection report on damage/cracks/wear.

Very happy with this build and happy to see other people still tinkering around with their custom tents. Keep it up! I don’t think a prefab would have brought me the same joy.

Does anyone have any solutions for creating a good entry/exit through the tailgate without getting bugs all inside the camper?

I’m thinking of getting something like this but wanted to see other peoples ideas:

here is mine after being inspired here, got a cheap china RTT that I merged with the space frame snd cut the floor to access from inside. Alu-panels on the sides.

The bed sides are fiberglass, so I welded another frame structure underneath the camper to support all the weight, ended up being at 320lbs for the camper and another 70 for the support frame.

Any additional pictures of the side panels? It looks like you used quarter turn topper latches instead of the Southcos and framed them in differently than most.

I did use topper latches, all the doors were cut using jig saw with an “eye” precision. IMG_1344.jpg IMG_1347.jpg IMG_1350.jpg IMG_1352.jpg

Not proud of how long it took me but happy with the end product! Let me know next time you are in the Ken Caryl area so you can check it out in person.

I can’t keep water out of this thing. I hosed it down while it was closed. Looked inside…no water. Came back 30 minutes later and there’s a huge puddle inside. Water is somehow filling up the 80/20 and slowly seeping through. I’ve used so much silicone and I can’t figure out where the water is finding it’s way in.

Did you silicone between the bulb seal on the 80/20 and the 80/20 itself?

If you spread a super thin bead along the outside edge of the bulb seal and the 80/20 extrusion that's where mine was coming in. Same symptoms and delayed dripping.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already did this and I’m still having the same issue.
