Hi, I have a 08 Tacoma double cab long bed sr5 and I want to install an overhead console. I looked for the sensor behind the horns and I don't have it. And in console I have 8 wires in the connector housing. My car came with a connector housing with 6 wires only. I’m thinking I’m missing the 2 wire for the temp sensor. All the overhead console wires are black. the wires I have up there are: yellow, green, purple white, white purple, light green and just one underneath one green one. I check under the power steering wheel an in the fuse box I have the connector with :green red, green, orange, light green, blue, red, blue yellow and green white, green, blue purple orange, blue black. It’s normal to have just 6 wires in the housing behind the overhead console and 8 in the overhead console housing? If I need to run 2 wires from the sensor can I run this straight to the overhead console or I have to go in the fuse box. Thanks

Just looked in our new '09. All the wiring is there, including the sensor (great write up, btw). Does anyone know the part number for the console?
    thanks

good detail. i wish i had the answer. I'll take a look - but you may want to go to toyota and ask them for a wiring diagram for this area. I did that once and they gave me a nice color printout.. BUT when i look, i'll let ya know

I'm wondering if an 08 reg cab can be cut at the liner, and might have the 1 screw fastener on the cab to intsall the non compass console. Think I'll prod the padding and see what comes of it.

hmm, anyone with a reg cab, or cab w/o any console, try to install the console, either with or w/o compass?

i dont think this would work out for you. Try doing a HomeLink mirror. it would have everything built in and look stock

thanks for the mirror idea i might do that too, but im interested in the console w/o the temp guage first. I'm not sure if the metal frame to fasten it to is in all trucks or not. I'm assuming there is no wiring for the compass if i do have the part to fasten it too.

Hello, does anyone know if the compass/temp module can be removed and re-installed in place of the garage door opener assy?

    Thanks....

it is PROBABLY possible. How id do it:
on your nontempconsole, holding in the "garage door opener" in is two rivets and three clips. You'll have to undo those two rivets and three clips and that "cup" will come out, which will leave you with a hole. Now you'll notice to get that "cup" out, you'll have to undo the rivets that hold in the map lights. So map light rivets come out, map lights come out, then undo the rivets for the "cup" and then the "cup" comes out. Then do the same to the tempconsole and install it as would make sense

no one has done it from what i know... but i think it would be possible. Of course undoing the rivets will destroy them... so you'll probably have to crazy glue/gorilla glue it back in place..

OK, all done! You can see I used screws and washers on the round plastic uprights and epoxy on the flat plastic uprights.

Installed the new console and also the Blue Logic bluetooth system. I calibrated the compass and it works like a champ. Temperature about 15 minutes here was 98.

I call BS. I have a double din and obviously my temp gauge. Works fine. Theres no connection between the two. Maybe its the 510 resistor? BUT no matter what, go back and demand they fix what they broke...

    and welcome to the forums!

Youre the first one i've heard be able to do that.. maybe 2010 is different than the 2009 ones, but older 2nd gens wont work with the 2009 for sure. Glad it worked Clarence!

I have a 2010 AC and the wires are there with the Yellow #5 pin as well as the temp sensor under the hood obviously. From what I have read there may be different AC amps sending this signal over pin #5 yellow between the 4 cyl and 6cyl models? Anyone try to use a 2009 console in a 2009+ 4cyl?

    Another thought-
If this didnt work on 4cyl because of the AC amp being different, what would prevent me from buying a 2008 console, isolating the #5 pin and running new #5 and #6 wires to the temp sensor? Any why put the #5 pin or the wires if this isn't possible on a 4 cyl?
