^^ That's some detailed info. Thanks man. I'm gonna check that later today. If I do need to run my own wires, how is it done?

if pins 1&3 aren't connected to anything than you're gonna have to tap into them. I just used 12gauge red and black wiring from radioshack, tapped into 1&3, using wire insulator I ran them through the fire wall through the rubber boot, ran that all the way to the front of the radiator, wired up the plug(im not sure whats the official part name for it) and plugged the ambient temp sensor.

in this pic, there's 2 parts to it. the tip is the ambient temp sensor and the plug itself. you have to have this 2 parts for the compass/temp gauge to have a read out. also, is the compass/temp gauge you ordered for 05-08? 05-08 is only compatible with 05-08. last time I read they changed the wiring for 09 and above. if what I wrote out is confusing let me know. I'll gladly help you out.

Adio, thank you so much man. First off, yes, my console is from an 08 model so that part will work. As far as the 1c connector, it's on the fuse box itself, right, not the plugs behind the kick panel? How do I know which wires (pins) are numbered 1 and 3?
If I get the wires and do it myself, does radio shack sell those little connectors that go into the plugs?

it's on the driver side. take off that coin cubby thingy, you'll see the fuse box. 1C connector is right next to a red fuse labeled 30. I don't think RadioShack carries those parts. best bet is dealership. I was lucky I got my parts off of wreck Taco. this should explained it more into detailed, parts, wiring etc. let me know if you need help, and update me bro ones you got it working.

Sooo.... I went through my fuse box, and realized mine is different than the v6 fuse box, so I do not have the 1c connector.
Do you guys know where I can find an electrical diagram of the two trucks to compare? i know there was one on the ttora site, but it's long gone.

Does anyone out there know where I can find a temp/compass for a 2010 AC SR5...? or if a console from any other year, like a '08, will work on my '10?

    Thanks

I think the overhead console with the compass/temp gauge slot of any year(or whatever year they stop making those) could fit your 2010. But you have to get the temp/compass gauge that's for 09-plus.

05-08 temp/compass gauge works only 05-08 Taco etc.

Sideways got one fore sale. But with no temp/compass gauge. I'm pretty sure you can find some on eBay for sale.

    Thanks for the info.

Anyone know if a '10 SR5 has the actual temp sensors already on board? Wondering if buying the overhead console makes it more or less plug and play? (with a bit of wiring of course)

    Thanks

^^ only way to find out is to check your truck if it's pre-wired.

check up top on the overhead console and up front in front of the radiator.

that smaller plug, plugs into the gauge.

see that lose plug in front of the radiator. that's where the ambient temp sensor plugs into.

This is an awesome writeup! Thank you so much! If I may ask a question: Is the temp sending unit also going to be already there or is that something I have to purchase? My husband and I are pretty sure we have the wire by the horn, and I found the console, I just want to be sure I have everything I need before I have him pull the console out. He isn't the most patient of men. lol

Great write up; wonder if it'll help the '14 owners who have manual mirror and don't have temp/compass? Prob is that don't know if a '11 console would fit a '14. Gotta get a junker, as whole console, OEM new is about 800$

Are there any 14s with this console?

My truck has a temp sensor already installed.

Well, I know this article IS old, so I guess a response shouldn't have been anticipated... lol

But I DID just order the ambient Therm sensor from Toyota! :) We are so close to having this project complete! :)
