How to lock a tailgate

This will be my first Tacoma. It is being built as I am typing so I am a little excited but I have heard that the tailgates are often stolen. How can I prevent that? I understand that if someone really wants it they could get it but I just want to deter them. Thanks for any help.

You could buy a pop'n'lock when they come out for the 09's -- or you could do the hose clamp "mod" to make it more difficult to have it stolen...

I vote pop'n'lock as well if you don't have a bedcover.

I've decided to leave my tailgate unlocked though because of my bed cover. If they assume I have something under the cover valuable and can't get to it through the tailgate, then I'm worried they would cut through my cover only to discover that I carry air most of the time.

 

I just installed an Ideal 1 3/4" Turn-Key Clamp to prevent tailgate from being stolen. Perfect fit w/key to remove if needed.

Including the locking hard cover, pop-n-lock, another brand of electronic tailgate lack, clamp mods, and a company that makes a piece that works like a clamp mod. Good luck finding something that will work for you...
