I have these complete assembly's with Koyo bearing, dorman hub flange, Toyota bolts, Toyota o-ring & national seal for $179 each. that's $100 less than blue pit bearings charges! and I include the o -ring.

I have sold two sets to two members so far. I will put an ad up in the classified section with pictures.

Needle bearing can be seen here:

Chase @ ECGS has a bushing that replaces the driver side needle bearing. it takes care of the cv slop & vibration that is associated with the worn out needle bearing.

Finally got around to doing this as well, went with the CVJs with the silicone inner boot, came to $300 with core exchange, and no shipping, they are local to me. I also replaced the inner oil seals as well as the seals in the knuckle.

The oil seals looked OK, but the ones in the knuckle fell apart when I pulled the CV out. I had planned to replace the oil seals, so I had them on hand, but not the ones in the knuckle. A little research came up with the replacement parts, but I had to call like 10 different shops to find them, and finally found two spots that had one each.

Part numbers are shown for the Toyota diff seals, $38 for the pair (which are different for each side); the Nationals are #710573, $20 each.

I made a ghetto press for the knuckle side, and then used the old seals and a rubber mallet for the diff seals.

I rented that exact same setup from Autozone, but it was zero help, the attachment does not fit our CVs, it is too small. I read earlier in the thread about using a ratchet strap to pull the CVs, so I used that method, no pics unfortunately. But basically wrapped the adjustable end of the strap around the part of the CV near the diff, and attached the two hooks together around the shock with the ratchet in the middle, then tightened er down.

This was not enough to pull it totally free, so I used a tire iron to pry at the junction between the diff and the CV. With enough pre-load from the strap, it did not take much prying. If you could get a better mount, say from another stationary object, with the ratchet not in the tight space, I think you could pull the whole thing out without the prying. You could also use a pipe clamp to attach the free end of the strap to the CV instead of wrapping it, which would be a bit simpler.

Anybody who doesn't think their wheel bearings need replacement may want to consider this approach:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHY1rpRD11g

I found this after I disassembled the entire shooting match. Fine as I want to replace the seals at least but this could save someone some time, next go round.

    Hey, Great thread........

But how can u be sure that the CV joint is shot? Ive heard they have a lot of play all the time..

Mine problem is that I first started with a low hum, now im getting a vibration. Checked wheel bearings and ball joints and u joints... Only thing i notice is the drivers side CV seems sloppy up and down with like a 1/4" play..

    Any ideas?

Mine were starting to make a clicking noise like a rock in your tire. They slide in and out of the inner section, which is normal, but rotationally they should be tight.

Well I took this on. My diff seal was leaking. Since I had to take it apart to get to the seal, thought I'd go ahead and put a new axle in. My lower ball joint also needed replacing. Got the axle out....it was tough but got it out.

It was the ball joint that kicked my butt. I could not get it pressed out. Rented the ball joint press from the store. Tried an air hammer.. after a couple of hours I gave up.

So I replaced the seal and CV axle. At this point I guess I'll take it to the shop to have them do the ball joint.

I hate it when something beats me.

I had the same issue, I thought everything was going to explode and I was going to be killed be shrapnel. My notes are here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/4runners/238998-wishbone-runners-build-3.html#post7327602

If you can have the truck apart for awhile, try what I did and let it sit overnight with pressure on the press and dousing it with PB.
