Probably have the only 2nd Gen with an 8274 in the world.
Thanks for the info. I guess i'll need to invest in a torque wrench if I keep jacking with this truck. thx.

Wait so is the seal in the spindle just a dust seal?

The rubber that holds down the metal spring thing is ripped. Hopefully my stealer ship has one

Grab a chisel and pry it from the base. New one can be "pressed" in with a 2x4 scrap and a dead blow.

Hey Guys, Looking to get my CV back in now that some parts arrived. S I made the mistake of getting a "refurbished OEM" from nappa... I really dont think its oem...

Im trying to put the CV back in, and it goes in, but not all the way, is there somewhere I hammer to help it do in? Since its missing the "tabs" that oem has? I dont want to rip a boot. Is this where I need the slide hammer with hook attachment?

    New

Old OEM - the notches are the "tabs" that I used to get the old CV out with a pry Bar/hammer

    Thanks

I'm planning on pulling my CV this weekend so I haven't actually done it, but this is what I've gathered from reading:

Install CV with slot in the C-clip facing down. Line the CV up in the front diff and place a block of wood over axle and tap in with a hammer until it fully seats against the oil seal.

Also, the video on pg.9 says to align the CV shaft splines with the differential.

You can hit on whole CV to make it go in, just keep it straight, and protect thread at the end so you dont hammer on it. (you can always put a nut on threads, just enough so it seats flat with threads)
Now pulling these things a part its goign to be a pain with out those notches, can you go back to NAPA and ask them for new one ?

I did. Didn't replace the other though. I kinda bent the edge when I installed the new one with a block :( I tried to straighten it out... hopefully it's all good

the edge isn't the critical part, the spring and rubber is.

20150814_203816.jpg 20150814_203927.jpg 20150814_203801.jpg I replaced passenger side wheel bearing last week with no problems. Tonight I'm trying to replace driver side and install the ECGS front diff bushing while I'm at it. Problem is I can't get CV shaft to come out. I rented the slide hammer and tried OP's method but that's not staying put. I also rented the attachment but it's not near big enough. I've tried all three size crow bars using my feet holding onto the truck and also tried the steal cable method attached to 10 lb sledge hammer... the steel cable broke. I've got both tires in the air and had somebody rotate the axle and I pryed on every inch for an hour straight. All I know to do is go back to autozone and see if they have a bigger attachment. I have 4x4 engaged, but I was told that didn't matter. I purchased truck in 06 and lived in south east entire time. None of my bolts have been frozen and my cams turn very easy.

    I need some suggestions please.

large pry bar catch the lip at the right point and give it a good shot. DO NOT pull on the cv shaft to try and pull it out. IT WILL pop out of the diff once you get the clip to pop.

I've always had luck with at least a 24" pry bar with the truck lifted up high enough.

    report back.

get a good bite on the pry bar and cv shaft and give it a good pop. I've never had to use a slide hammer.

stick the ecgs bushing in the freezer so once you get the old roller bearing out, the bushing will be ready to install.

I appreciate the picks, but I spent 2 hours prying in those same spots you've shown with a 24 and 36 inch crow bar. I grinded the tips down so I could get a really good bite. I even used my feet to push on the crowbar. I've watched videos on how to do it, but for whatever reason my CV is not coming out. Hell the steel cable method that is found on the TTora forum snapped the cable. I'm gonna go pick up some more slide hammer attachments in the morning and give it another go.
