I made this for the common person who does not have detailing equipment or even a simple drill type of buffer. The product that is doing most of the work is Meguiars Scratch X 2.0 For some of you guys this is elementary or a step back from what you do. For others, this is helpful.

Thanks Eric for making the video. Great to know the ScratchX can be used without power tools. (Unlike what another member on here told me.)

I didn't say that Stratch-X required a machine. Scratch-X is horrible to use with a machine, it's a liquid so it flings everywhere. Should only use by hand.

What I said is that my scratches in my doorhandles cannot be fixed by hand, they have to be corrected by machine. Most paint correction is going to require a machine.

That's because you are brain washed with all those Chemical Guys products. You just need to line-x your truck and call it done.

You joke but I recently got a couple chips in my windshield, I just line-Xed the whole thing. No more chips!

I get a lot of bugs in my face though

Here it is compared to HD Speed. I always wondered about when directions say to use on a cool surface in the shade, (the bottle has those words on it) This cat here lives out in the desert and over 100 degrees when he done this comparison. This is a 3 part video, parts 2 & 3 are on the right when you open the youtube link.

Eric - this has to be the best video I've seen yet. I can tell you have done your research.

I was wondering if the scratches ever come back? Like if you don't wash or wax your car in a while. Somehow I get the feeling you always wash and up keep your cars though.:D

The guy puts to rest that you can use wax/polish out in full over 100 degree sunshine also. On the bottle of most every wax or polish you see including this product.. you are to apply it to a cool to the touch surface and in the shade. Like he says in his video's, he lives in the desert and there is no shade tree and this stuff works just fine. Proof is in the pudding as Grandpa used to say.

And no the same scratches won't come back. Maybe other ones but not the ones he removes out of the clearcoat.

I like how he vigorously rubs it on the scratch. I've been waxing like a slow grandpa LOL.

Sometimes I pick up on how products are applied and that can be just as helpful as what product to use.

I wish I had my own place where I could use a polisher. I have a new bottle of this stuff and I don't think it will do to good putting it on by hand. I'm sure it will take the grayish look off the paint though so all will not be lost. Couple more months before it gets warm enough though... :(

So you tried this Megs Ultra Polishing Wax then?

Any product can be applied in sun. The issue is product will dry out quicker. He mitigated the issue by working a smaller area instead of the normal 2 X 2.

    I've been using this:

    IMG_2589.jpg

I just blindly bought it at Wal-mart because it was Megs. This really puts a mirror shine on my wifes dark blue Escape. On my orange truck I don't notice the mirror shine. Maybe it's how it works with different colors? I'd buy it again...as well as the other 3 Megs wax products that were explained in the video.

Consider trying Meguiar Ultimate Wax leaves my Inferno looking amazing and gives it that mirror shine you asking.
My method is: wash, clay, scratch removal if any, and ultimate wax

no, the scratches do not come back. Hey guys, I have been doing this a long time. Not professionally. The guys in the auto body shops have the equipment to blow away anything we can do at home. Years ago I used to show classic corvettes. Had to detail the cars for the shows. So, there was a lot of time spent figuring all of this stuff out. Plus, new products come on the market over time and you have to keep an open mind and not get stuck in your ways. 10 years from now my video may be yesterday's news.

By the way, the Tacoma in my picture to the left was purchased in October of 2015 (2016 model). It is also the Tacoma in the first post of the Magnetic Gray Metallic thread. After 27 months, you cannot find a single scratch anywhere on that truck. Yes a big part of it is making sure that I am not exposing the truck to things that will create scratches. Watch where you park, dont drive through the bushes, etc However, after getting a few scratches I was able to remove them.

Eric - do you have any tips for door dings/dents?

Removing dents and dings? Man... that is tough. Those small little dents you cannot pull out. Usually a job for the body shop. Short of that, you can make sure that the paint is not chipped or scratched in that ding/dent. Do a thorough job in removing the dirt and any loose paint and then buy the exact matching touch up. Get it from the dealer if you can. Otherwise, you are looking at a spot repair. The dealer can probably also let you know who they use for spot repairs.

Outside of that, I have no advise for fixing dents or dings where the panel has been pushed in.
