I've never done it but what's involved in removing the oil cooler?

Remove the oil cooler, 2 bolts, 2 nuts, with two gaskets at the base.

1/4 qt at most, most all the oil is in the pan. Have not done a Tacoma, but other Toyota's of that style. I would try to flex the coolant lines if possible, to avoid draining the coolant.

Thanks. I was just curious since I know oil can sometimes pool in places. Hopefully I won't have to address this any time soon though.

Thanks for the insight. I'm going to try and find a shop to do it for me tomorrow so I don't have to make a mess in the Airbnb driveway :D

I've replaced the two upper idlers and tensioner pulleys along with the belt. The lowers gotta be my issue!

No worries. @mattleg has it covered. Just make sure to get things nice and clean before separating the cooler from the mount.

So you couldn't get it from the bottom without having the cooler in the way? Can the lower idler pulley not be replaced by going from underneath the truck with the skid removed? I need to replace my lower on but if it's going to be a mess in my garage may let someone else fool with it. such an easy job otherwise though...

That's right, you must remove the oil cooler and drain at least that part of the system. You can't get it off without the headache
