I have a trouble shooting question someone might be able to answer:

I have the Mini D2S and I think I have a bad ballast. I switched bulbs, ballasts, and leads from the ballast to the bulb and changing ballasts alone was the key to getting one side or the other working.

With the harness that connects the two sides, only the drivers side stock bulb wiring is used? Leaving the passenger side stock bulb plug unused? Or am I missing something.

Anything else I might have overlooked? Otherwise will be contacting TRS Monday for a new ballast.

    Thanks!

Brian is correct, passenger side is not used.

If you switched bulbs, checked all the connections, and if it happens to the other side when you switch ballast tells me you have a bad one. What kind of ballast?

Thanks! Thought so, but wanted to make sure.

Just double checking myself, but thought I had a bad one :( They are the XB35.

So I did my retrofit using this tutorial a few years ago. I was running a Stage III Morimoto Mini D2S 55w. I pulled them off due to the shrouds popping off while off roading along with a reasonable amount of oxidation on the plastic lens which severely reduced the output (original factory lenses with 7 years of sun exposure). Anyways, I am planning on rebuilding them, I have new Depo housings and plan on reusing my old kit with new shrouds unless there is something new and better out. I haven't kept up with any of this since I first did my retrofit, hoping you all can point me in the right direction.

Did you ever install halos or anything? If so, I say wait or preorder their newest switchback versions. If not, you wouldn't have any problems switching components over. I will say, you may have to buy a new lock nut. The locknut are made to deform when they're screwed on tight.

No halos. Love the look but just another thing to break. And yeah I planned on getting a new one, mine got pretty chewed up when I installed them.

I was surprised to see the shroud just pop off the way it did. Any recommendations on securing the shrouds on more permanently? Also, what are you all doing to prevent the projectors coming loose and vibing? I dont spend much time off road but when I do I like to get after it and do higher speed stuff. By the 2 year mark just getting on the gas was causing them to vibrate.

I just now saw this. Sorry! I recommend jb welding the shrouds onto the projectors. Your projector shouldn't vibrate at all if you lock it in tight with the locknut. I always put a bit of jb weld on the back for extra security.

That's what I was thinking! Pulling off the lights tonight after work and getting started. Already have the old retros apart and ready to install on the new housings. Hoping to get them aimed tonight then put them back together tomorrow morning. What is the best sealant to use? Forgot what I used on my last set but heating them didnt loosen them at all, although I was able to use a flathead to break the seal across the housing.
