I had the opposite experience. At 29,000 miles ,I changed the plugs using a .43 gap and iridium plugs, forgot the brand,Auto Zone recommended them at 6 bucks a piece. My mileage went from 18 mpg to 21 mpg average.

I used OEM plugs. Maybe mine will go up to 27 mpg. Haha

    Hi Chris or anyone,

I'm in the middle of doing this. What is torque spec of these 2 bolts when putting back?

    I'm done! Thanks Chris.

The DENSO spark plugs from Toyota are indeed pre-gapped. Gap measured 0.42 to .043.

This ^^^ I have found .040 to .041 to be the best compromise.

Sure will make them easier to remove the next change,if you break one down in that hole you will be taking it to a dealer to fix, unless your a mechanic.

One question , my owners manual says to use the iridium plugs, when i asked the guy at the parts counter at the dealer he told me they dont use those in the v-6,do any of you use them? I just used the plugs he gave me, not sure if i should try the iridium next time.

Interesting info on the use of anti-seize compound. What do you think?

Not sure. I still apply a little anti sieze, and have had no issues with it. Im not wanting to test it to see if they end up fusing to the head.

Wow ! This is a 180 from what I've been told since they started using aluminum. I hope someone will test this out. If the plug bonds to the head and snaps off it will help me make my decision.:D Thanks.

Finally got a nice day yesterday here in MASS. So i took advantage of it changed my plugs :D Great trend Chris. Everything went nice a smooth. My truck was at roughly 33800. I swear that changing the plugs made my truck run and sound smoother. Maybe its in my head :p But I'm a happy camper. If you have any mechanical skill I highly recommend doing the plug change yourself. It was super easy and it'll save you a ton of money. On place that i recommend to get a torque wrench is Harbor Freight picked mine up for $20 it might not be SNAP ON but it does the trick.

Iridiums are supposed to be changed at 100,000 miles. They may be welded to the block by then - dissimilar metals. When would you change them to avoid this ? And now the post above says not to use anti-seize so how do we stop them from welding to the block ?

Great thread Chris! Went smooth as silk today. Front drivers side reconnect went well when I just rotated the coil into the clip (as suggested earlier). Plus did not have to remove the VSV connector.
I would not have wanted to go into this blind.
