Cyl. #2. was the issue, and he tried 2 plugs.

I would assume there is a misfire sensor on each cylinder not just for the left and right bank of cylinders. As I pulled each plug out I re-checked the gap on them. Nothing changed but the electrode started to change that bluish color. The #2 cylinder never did with either plug. I did change them out twice with new ones so they wouldn't have had the chance to heat up as much, but every other cylinder was firing.

Odd. If you do have Toyota do it, ask them if they had any issues. I'm curious to find out what the issue is.

Thanks so much for the write up, made it a breeze! It was my first time and have been putting it off for sometime but I had 164000 Kim's on my 09 and it had the Denso NGK combo so they must have been original. They looked okay but the gap was .070 on the denso and .065 on the NGK. Hopefully fuel mileage improves some.

I just did my '13 with 32,000 miles this afternoon. Great write-up, made it super easy.

I don't know if it has been covered but on my truck it was easier to just unsnap the filter housing then disconnect it from the inlet hose. That gave me enough room. There was a bunch of stuff covering one of the bolts to remove the whole intake hose assembly.

My Densos were at about .045 and the NGKs were at close to .050.

I set my new Densos to .040-.041

    Runs great.

    Wouldn't you like to know!
Just did mine this weekend! Took about 2.5 hrs with breaks. Although I found out the truck had the stock plugs in it because the driver side was NGK's. Dealer had told me when I bought it that it had a tune up recently at 60K miles. (guess that was a big fat lie) sad to say I waited waaaayyy to long to change these as I noticed the old plugs were all fudged up. Now I know what to do so it shouldn't take more than an hour or so next time. Great write up!

Great write-up, took me about an hr to do. I did get a check engine light the next day. Checked and the VSV plug was still disconnected. Anything I should be worried about? Drove about 20 miles with no performance issues.

    Hey All...

So I went to Toyota to have them change the plugs for me. I went down and spoke to the tech who worked on my truck, even though he wasn't that friendly (even after a $10 tip) we spoke for a minute. He said that he's never seen that issue before and there could be a chance that I had two bad plugs. To me that seem like a BS excuse. I even went back and checked my torque wrench, the gap in the plugs and anything else I could think of. I have no clue and I'm lost. I guess in another 30k miles ill see again when I go back to change them!!

Just wanted to say thank you again to Chris4x4, dude you kept me sane through the troubleshooting, even when it was 15 degrees outside!!

Thanks for the excellent write up! Just changed out my plugs tonight. Truck is an '06 wtih 112K on it. The plugs looked great except for the large gap, well over 0.05. I struggled a little with the driver side front getting the coil plugged back in, but was able to get it connected with a little patience and some wiggling. I also cleaned the throttle body, MAF, new air filter, cabin filter, and changed out the diff fluid. Truck is running great. Good to go for a few more years!! Thanks again Chris4X4!

I read the write up but not all the posts. Do we need to use dielectrics grease on the end of the plugs?
    thx

So I'll be doing this probably saturday but do I have to change the harnesses also? I'm at 101xxxx miles so just curious. This is the first time I've changed my plugs (I know bad owner). The write up looks simple even hopefully it'll go smooth.
