Not to derail the thread but another popular option to wiring dash cameras is to tap into either the powered rear view mirror or tap into power under the overhead console. Both options make for a clean install as well. Have both a radar detector and a dash cam hard wired like this. A couple threads floating around about this type of setup.

might be a stupid question- but why use parts (Tweeter) from a Subaru?

They are a direct plug and play and superior to the stock tweeters.

So no aftermarket company makes a better plug and play tweeter? We're pirating old Subaru stuff?

    Straight newb here.

Any chance you know or are able to find out the part number for the male end to those factory tweeters?

Well Crutchfield is pretty good but they will try to sell you some expensive component speakers instead. They’re wrong. The Subaru kickers will work very well.

I have been purchasing car audio from Crutchfield since 1989. However, it's kinda interesting the number of 3rd Gen owners that are doing this mod with great results.

I didnt do it and crutch sent me a component set. I had to fabricate a new bracket from "universal" back strap. It was a pain.

I know 4runner owners are not typically on this forum, but if you also own a 4Runner, these Subaru tweeters are plug-and-play just as they are on the Tacoma. I installed them a couple months ago. FYI.

They sound nice. I have 3 or 4 songs to test highs, mids, and lows. They sound great on those.

The kicker set up impresses me although that’s not saying much. It will do better once amped with a sub.

Bottom line, Subaru kicker tweeters don’t have a plug and play alternative outside of OEM+ or Taco Tunes. If you’re not already set on the two afformentioned companies, check it out.

Did you try salvaging the mount for the factory speaker. I’ve heard of guys tearing the speaker out of the bracket and attaching the tweeter to it.

I tried. It's all fused together pretty tight. I even took after it with a hammer.

Heh, that ^ was my plan for today...check out how hard it would be to pop out the factory tweet from the mount. It doesn't appear to come apart that I can see. I see lots of vendors selling plastic adapters that mount using the existing points. I'm just going to roll my own from some scrap plastic/aluminum from work I think. I did not see any 3d plans on thingverse either.

Not by themselves, but Crutchfield included all adapters I needed to make them Plug n Play (wiring adapter, speaker mounts, etc).
