    Guys,

Just did my 60K service a few weeks ago and plan on doing this in the next week or so. To my knowledge it's not ever been done.

My only question is pulling the negative off the battery to reset the computer absolutely necessary, or will it eventually reset it self over time? (IE, pulling the negative terminal just speeds up the process.)

No problem doing it if it's needed, I'd just rather not if I can avoid it so I don't have to re-input the 5000 crossover, etc settings on my headunit for my stereo.

    Thanks!

I'm going to do this on my '09, even though I only have 31K miles I want to see what it looks like in there. :)

I don't think the low mileage matters, my truck is only at 28K. It wasn't real dirty, but it is now cleaner. I was changing my air filter when I did mine... seemed logical, to me. This was a good learning experience and good preventative maintenance.

I found this link to cleaning the MAF sensor...its a little more in depth about spraying the actually MAF wires. Its for a Mazda 3 but the MAF sensors in our 2nd gen trucks are the same. It looks easier to just remove the sensor and do it.

I did this at 31k miles and it was not too bad at all. truck is there years old and used to go off road a lot. I did not notice a change in engine performance. I'm glad to have done it and thank the OP for his writeup.

Huh good info! I never thought of removing the o-ring before spraying the cleaner...must be why i already had to replace the ring once since it was starting to fall apart haha

Thank you for the great write up. I did this the other week on both my truck and with my friends '92. Mine ended up being a little cleaner than his, and a little bit less of a PITA.;)

    Great write up!
I just got a 2006 crew cab TRD (92k) last week and I will definitely be doing this!

I have done similar things to my cars in the past and I've noticed that there never seems to be any build up in cars that I have owned for a while. I've always used good gas (99% Chevron w/ occasional trips to texaco and shell) and add techron concentrate when I fill up every few months and all my vehicles have ran great with no build-up on inspection.

Not trying to start a gas quality war but does anyone else have any feedback or similar experience with this?

    Thanks again!

Gas never runs through your air intake piping or throttle body. It doenst have an effect on the tb/maf

I'm new to Tacoma World. I have always taken my truck to the dealer and did not have the knowledge or courage to do services myself.

I cleaned my throttle body a couple of weeks ago and I have to say it was dirty (86,000 miles). I highly recomend removing the throttle body to clean. Mine was not that dirty in the front, however the back of the throttle body was covered in "black". I noticed a huge difference after I cleaned. Much better pick-up from a stop and a very nice roar from my intake even though I only have a stock air filter (put a new one in). Also had some vibration from the engine when idling/accelerating, which all went away after I cleaned. I get better fuel economy now (I was around 17 to 17.5 overall and now I'm up to 18.95 city/hwy). Changed my rear lsd diff fluid too, so I think that helped with the increase in fuel economy.

For any new members or someone like me, who had really never done any kind of mechanic work in the past this was really pretty easy to do.

This is the best forum for Tacoma owners. I don't think I will be going to the dealer anytime soon. I have already saved $420 by just doing my throttle body and rear lsd fluid change myself.

My locals dealers are unreasonable with their pricing and advertise for certain services (15k, 30k, etc.) without performing all the services that are required according to the service manual. Unless, I specifically tell them what services my manual states to perform, based on my vehicles mileage they will not do things like change spark plugs, lsd fluid, etc. And of course, the dealers tell me these kind of services are extra $$$ even though that is what is listed for my vehicle at such mileage intervals.

Words of advice-If you take your vehicle to a dealer, especially to have a service done for an advertised price like "30k service" confirm what they will actually do before paying to have it done. I had some bad experiences.....

Just got this done today at 82.5K. No doubt removing the TB is the way to go. I cleaned the TB per the original post and then read down further to the discussion on removing the TB. It was still very dirty on the back side. Instant pick up in responsiveness.

Not bad for 15 bucks and 30 mins of hobbying.

I did this on my '06 DC for the first time after 112K miles and the truck drives much better.
    Things I noticed:
-Improved throttle response for normal driving(didn't have to put my foot in too much from a stop and less lag)
    -Smoother idle and shifts(Auto)
-Faster downshifts when I floored it
    -Improved MPG, 18.5MPG in 60/40 city/hwy...not bad for a stock v6 on 33s, 18" wheels with a bad O2 sensor
