    Thank you OP, great thread. Just did it on my 2010 trd OR. Have 55k miles, didn't see too much buildup and not sure it made too much difference. BTW I used two coat hangers instead of wire, worked perfectly.

    110k and it was supposedly done before around 65K. I don't believe it was actually done properly as it was nasty; much better now! Initial high idle that went back to normal after a drive around the block.

    BHLM, Flowmaster 50 series, TRD CAI, Hoen all weather fog bulbs, window tint, LED interior lights (cupholder & floor), exterior LED courtesy lights. OME/Dakar lift. 50W reverse lights. Painted wheels.
    Did mine @ 126,100 miles. Had a lot of build-up.
    Now, I can hear airflow under hard accelleration.
    In "normal" driving (1k-2k rpm) every thing sounds normal.
    Reving in neutral sounds mostly normal.
    It's just under load >3k rpm that I really notice an airflow sound.

    Almost makes me wonder if the o-ring didn't seat correctly when I put the TB back on. On the other hand, maybe that's just what the TRD CAI sounds like with a clean TB. I don't remember what it sounded like way back when I installed it almost 100,000 miles ago.

    O-rings are cheap so I might take the TB back off this weekend to replace that just in case.


    **edit/update
    Replaced the gasket. Got rid of the whoosh/whistle around 2100 rpm. $8.99 at Toyota, $3.99 at Autozone.
    Also noticed this time around that all of the rubber hoses had some cracks near the ends and the clamps were embedded into the rubber so they weren't really clamping very tight any more.

    Thanks for these instructions. Did this for the second time on my Taco (2005 with 125k miles now). Wasn't that bad, but was doing a spark plug change, and figured I'd take a look. I think the first time was around 90k miles, and it was pretty bad then.

    Only step I modify, is that I actually take the MAF sensor out of the housing. Maybe dangerous, but I am very careful with it. I just feel like I can get to it better that way. Hate the way you have to clean the TB, but I don't think I want the extra steps of taking it off.

    I also noticed a few hoses with cracks in the end. I will probably take an inventory of those, and replace the ones I find. At some point, I would like to do the main radiator hoses as well. Better catch those before failure...

    Homelink mirror with back-up camera (like stock 09-11's), Kenwood stereo with factory steering wheel controls, Weather Tech Mats, Factory Bed Mat, Leer Cap, 2011 Waffle grill & smoke headlights, DEPO LED tail lights, NEW FRAME!!
    Did this over the weekend, big difference in throttle response and no more rough idle. I did do two extra steps.
    1. SeaFoam spray to clean out the intake
    2. PCV
    Plus to make my life easier I removed the MAF, only two phillips screws, and un bolted the TB to access the back side much easier.
    I will be replacing the spark plugs next, I waited since I read that the SeaFoam can loosen some nasty shit and dirty plugs up pretty bad, just a precaution

    Wanted to add my thanks, this tutorial was clear and concise! Tacomaworld.com is really helping me get more hands on with my truck. Without quality guides like this one I wouldn't have the confidence.

    Xlnt article. Just one comment. I would remove the MAF sensor only because the wire is the critical item to clean, and you can see it much better with the sensor out. If you have experienced pinging a dirty wire can be the culprit.

    Just wanted to say thank you to genxer and everyone else that posted great info. easy follow threw write up. My 2007 tacoma trd sport v6 throttle body was VERY gummed up. cleaned up pretty easy with a tooth brush. Thanks again, you saved me a few hundred bucks from what toyota wanted.

    Great write-up! Took about 30 minutes and my truck runs a whole lot smoother and some pinging I had noticed has gone away. My truck is idling a little high right now, but from the looks of things, that is to be expected. Can't say thanks enough!!

    Very nice writeup and like others have expressed, good use of the arrows, they gave me a good laugh. I will be doing this cleaning in a few weeks when I hit 50K on my truck. I will also be replacing the spark plugs at the same time and air filter. I have noticed over he past several weeks that my engine has been running a little rough at lower RPMs so I suspect one of these will fix it. Routine preventative maintenance will definitely make things run better and last longer. And it's time to buy new tires too, now there is an expense I could do without.

    Thanks to the OP for this write up. Without it I would not have attempted this myself. I have 49K miles and cleaned the MAF as well as the throttle body in conjunction with changing the plugs and the difference is awesome. I didn't realize how sluggish my truck was feeling before.
