Thanks for the write-up. I used the tin snip method and it looks so much better. Plus, I don't drag em on speed bumps and every single piece of debris when I go play in the dirt. :D

Sold. Doin it this afternoon. Tin Snips it is!

I wonder if this will cause the snow dingleberries that form in the winter to slide off due to a lack of lip.....

    Too much, thanks TW.
I cut 5" from the front and 4" from the rear (just above 4X4) flaps.
Still 1" below below centerline of rear wheel (I have 1.5" of suspension lift on rear) to still make mine state law compliant.
Less mass, less buildup of snow and mud, less likely to break.

Thanks! Used a cordless jigsaw and a wood rasp to smooth em out.
    Worked fast and easy. :)

OK, so this thread popping back to the front inspired me.

I grabbed a pair of tin snips and popped the mudflaps off and gave 'em a trimming.

I used one as a "template" and used a pencil to rough out the cut.

It literally took me more time to get them off without breaking the fiddly panel attachment thingys than it did to trim them.

Got out and back in before the end of the fourth quater! :)

Looks great! That mod should make the flaps last a lot longer.
Plus it makes the truck look taller. Winning.

I just did the mod as well. I have a pait of heavy duty scissors that did just fine for the cutting. I did it as another showed, by cutting of a straight 4 inches and then using the cut off portion as the template to mark the curves. Sure like it alot better. Was out grouse hunting yesterday in the pacific norrthwest and everytime I went into a rut, the darn things would drag. Not anymore!!!!

Damn, ya'll have sold me on trimming my mud flaps. While I didn't like the look, I liked the level of protection of the full flaps. I'm breaking out the snips tommorow!

Cut mine with scissors (fiskers), paper and tape. Worked great and had little clean up. It took 10 min max and looks great.

I was wondering if you could replace the long front ones with the short rear ones. They seem like they would fit.

Nice job! I was thinking of removing mine. I like the way they protect the rocker panels but I don't like the way they look at all. I think I'll try cutting them back and see how that looks.

    Thanks.

i took mine off the truck and cut about 2.5 inches off. i used a band saw and a drum sander attachment on my drill press, worked fast and was easy to do.

I trimmed mine with tin snips about level with the bottom of the centercap of the wheels which = approx 2.5 off the rears and approx 4.5 off the fronts. Both sets are at 13" off the ground with the truck empty. Might be a bit less protective but way less ugly and way more protection than removing them completely. Still like how it looks without them but went ahead and compromised with the trimming and put them back on. This way they also don't blow backwards on teh frwy and develop cracking either. Form and function, bueno.

I used the tin snip method and then a dremel to sand it down smooth. Took off 2.5" from the fronts. Hopefully the mud flaps wont drag anymore. Thanks for the detailed post OP.

Has anyone tried briefly touching the new edge with a propane torch after sanding? This should give the final product a smoother finish as long as you don't hold the flame in one spot for too long and set fire to your truck. :)
