How do you get the screws out, mine are really stuck? Last night I sprayed the screws with PB Blaster, hopefully sitting overnight will help me take it apart.

Also, how do I tell by looking at the diff if it is locked or unlocked?

my screws just came out with a screw driver.

Try turning slowly. If truck doesnt want to move, then 4x4 is engaged.

When under the truck and looking at the opening, I can see the sleeve that the actuator arm moves. What is normal position and 4x4 position?

Ya, I used a pair of vise grips to remove all but one screw. The last screw I had to file a flat spot so the vise grips wouldn't slip.

The plastic gear inside the actuator is broken, and I don't think they sell parts so I will need to buy a new actuator unit or see if I can get one from a junk yard.

I'll upload pictures in the morning when I can find a camera.

After closer inspection I can see where the gap between the drive shafts is located.

Local dealer wants $378 for the part, online seems to be about $100 cheaper, plus shipping.

No junk yards around here seem to have this part either.

Well I bought a new 4x4 actuator assembly from Camelback Toyota, put it in the truck and my 4wd drive is working again! :)

Hell yeah. I just ordered one Sunday night and I'm hoping mine goes that smooth also.

I dropped the two front diff brackets to give more clearance. Hardest part for me was getting the old unit off. If I had an angle adapter to remove that last bolt, it would be so much easier!

Yeah mine came off really easy. I had to take channel locks to the Philips head screws but the ADD box itself came off the diff real easy. Part should be here today so hopefully 4wd is alive by tonight.

Wow. Wish I hadn't paid Toyota a ridiculous amount of money to replace one for me last winter.
