expensive mistake, if the 4hi engages then it's not the ADD

I am not the first one with this problem, I have EXACTLY what uscg2008 described:

    And then he said:
So hopefully it won't be a waste of money.

if the 4x4 light isn't blinking then it didn't go into 4wd. The ADD turns on the 4wd indicator light solid. So as long as your 4x4 light stayed blinking that is probably what it is, but your desciption said it went into 4wd :notsure:

uhmm my light blinks but I am pretty sure my 4HI is engaged because I cannot turn the truck when I am in 4HI. However when I go to 4LO I am pretty sure that one doesn't engage since I cannot hear it engaging or feel any difference and I hear a beep when going into drive.

I orderd a used ADD from a Salvage truck, I am going to try it and worst case scenario I will return it for a 35% restocking fee.

maybe a stupid question, but are you sure you had the clutch all the way in to get into 4lo?

    Hi Everyone,
Worked on this very problem all day today on my son's 06 Tacoma. Hie just got out of the Navy yesterday, so his first day back in the civilian world was working on this...! Anyway...took front actuator off, took it apart, overall good condition. Soldered the terminals, cleaned out the caked yellow grease from the half circles on the cap, and put it back on. Still have the blinking green light, and no noise whatsoever from either actuator EXCEPT... and I"m not making this up... the front actuator now beeps/chirps quietly.

We did not do the diagnostics noted in this thread as I just found the thread now. Any ideas on what the noise would be from the ADD? ANy help greatly appreciated, as this has been frustrating.

I did the ADD removal today and it looked like it was in good shape. I soldered the terminals anyway and re-assembled. I now have the 4x4 light blinking constantly. It originally only blinked when I turned the switch to 4 high. What a let down.

Pop it out again, leave it plugged in and have someone move the selector switch and see if it moves.

    Hey username,
I just popped it out while my son moved the 4x4 switch and nothing moved. I could here something above making a noise and some beeping, but no movement on the fork. I have it out on my bench, I'm going to take it apart and bench test the motor.
    Thanks again for any help!

I put 12v to the motor and I got nothing. I couldn't get the motor to turn, move the gears or the fork. So I'm going to look for a new actuator. Anyone know of a place I can order one for a fair price?
    Thanks

I got one (part # 36410-34015) from Toyota of McDonough in Georgia. They had the best price I could find. The first was damaged in shipping. They replaced it and paid the return shipping for the damaged one promptly.
