While skiing I found a iPhone 5s. I did the nice guy thing and posted it on Craigslist and nothing. It is passcode locked and obviously I don't know the code to get in. I took it to a store and they said it can't be unlocked also tried a cell phone repair place. Was going to try Apple store over weekend. I tried the factory restore thru iTunes but nothing. I know it can be done just no clue how to do it. Any suggestions. Was hoping to use it for apps if I can't get it unlocked maybe sell to gazelle.com

Can't if it's password protected. The new OS is set up this way to deter theft. You need the pass code to remove the phone from the iCloud account before you can reset it as a new phone. You could take it to an Apple store and they may be able to find the original owner.

If you go to the passcode screen and hit "emergency" then "Medical ID" it may pull up some contact info to try and return the phone.

Leave it on and the owner may call it. I would call and text it a few times a day if I had lost mine.

Well, it's a freebie then. If it's the 4 digit lock it shouldn't take too long. If not, good luck.

I am pretty sure that is to unlock the sim so you can use it on a different carrier, not unload the actual device because of the passcode.

The phone can only be unlocked using the iCloud account it's currently attached to.

    1. Hit the home button.

    2. Slide to unlock.

    3. look for and press the "Emergency" on the lower left of the Touch ID or Enter Passcode screen.

    4. When new phone screen slides over hit *Medical ID in the lower left corner. There should be one or more contacts listed and should be able to call.

    5. Call one or more of those contacts.
