    Hey guys,

Have you noticed a howling sound around 45-60 mph, when I’m driving at speed I hear it,but my foot must be on the accelerator, as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator it goes away.

By far the most annoying quirk of the 3rd gen Tacoma IMO. Learn to get used to it OP.

Well you guys were allll right haha apparently it’s a known issue, my dealer opened up a case, as you know that’s useless haha. But they drove another Tacoma and it did it as well. At least it’s documented, I’m just gojng to change the rear diff fluid at 30k and keep an eye on it. What fluid do you all recommend? Toyota rear diff fluid or an off brand?

This is a great sticky btw. Dig through it and you'll find some options or learn what to search for here on TW regarding diff fluid. Reading the stickies will save you alot of time and frustration. Part numbers included in sticky. I did Mobil 1 because it's much cheaper and readily available.

I'm probably going to switch mine out with Redline 75w-90 at 5k. I've done some research regarding oils and gear whine reduction and redline seems to be decent at at least cutting it down somewhat. I know it won't eliminate it, but if I could get even 20% reduction by just changing the oil, I think that's totally worth it.

Who knows though, it may not do anything.

For front and rear I went with Ravenol and for the transfer case I went with the Toyota liquid canned gold

If you had the gear noise did you notice any change after going to Ravenol?

I honestly didn't notice any noise before or after.
