If i can plug in the MPVI2 to get this info then yes.. or if an enhanced ABS/SRS code reader would work i have one of those. Otherwise i don't think i'd have the ability to pull the cal

2005-2008 had different plugs on the ecu compared to 2009+. It’s why URD took forever to come out with the UCON for the 09+ trucks.

This is true of the v6 second gens. But on the 2nd gen 2.7 it was 05-12 and 13-15 trucks with the same plugs at the ECU

on the 2.7L the important part is not the plugs or ECU but the MCU (microcontroller). The ones that match the 4.0L 09+ is what we can currently support

    Whelp its been awhile guys!

    V15 Auto Trans Tune

After figuring out optimum torque tables were the cause of the hangs from v12-14 tune (just so happened we started messing with those tables around v12 days). I went back to those previous iterations of trans tunes and picked out what i liked and didn't like when things were behaving properly.

One of the biggest things I found myself being annoyed about was my extra driving around town during this shitshow of a pandemic (vs riding my motorcycle like normal cus the GF is with me now more than before) was that around the 40-45mph mark the trans would be between 4th/5th and hardly lockup in 5th till above 50.

I went back to slightly closer to stock figures for the upshift to 5th and 5th gear lockup to get it into 5th and locked up sooner, MPG improvements might be had but it also really helps drivability at city level speeds. Some may not like it, just let me know.

Okay before I go reading the entire thread maybe someone can help. Been tuning for years. Somewhat new to hptuners. Been tuning my 04 CTS-V currently and now that I know it supports the wife's 12 Tacoma 4.0 it's time to buy some credits.

What's the stock n/a AFR or lambda at WOT on these? Wondering if any room to lean the AFR out?

Hows the stock timing map? Any room for advance?

I see some of the trans tunes posted. That will be fun to play with. Have not tuned an auto yet.

Just wondering if it's worth buying credits for a stock tacoma. Thanks guys.

Drivability improvements alone (especially on the 2012+'s) is worth it. Even more so if you already have the MPVI2.

AFR at WOT stock can dip stupid low. down to the mid 10:1's, and if knock is seen even more fuel is added down to single digits AFR's (youd swear it was an e85 tune stock haha)

Stock timing has some room to play, the adaptive nature of the stock timing strategy lends to it "finding" the most optimal timing given fuel its being fed, but you can optimize it and make things work more efficient and quicker.

FYI, you can "read" the tune off your 2012 for free and see what availability there is for tuning (i say "read" as its simply downloading the stock calibration file from the web for your truck not the actual tune on the ecu as there is no way to do that on the toyota). Its when you want to write to the truck is when you will have to pay.

Thanks for the info. That is insanely rich for n/a engine. Definently room to lean that out. So the stock ecu adds fuel when detonation is detected? That's very strange. Every car I've tuned pulls timing at that point. What is the max timing stock at wot?

In our case, when certain levels of knock are detected, fuel is added based on the amount of ignition retard and airflow.

Thanks. Seems to have a lot of room on thr timing. That's not aggressive at all.

If you’re running 86/87 it won’t tolerate much more, and in some areas it’s over advanced in stock form.

if running 91+ you can get a few more degrees out of it.

Definently would only run 91. Thanks for the info! I learned to tune on a dsm back in the day. Fun platform.
