Lower levels that the 90's, with the population being larger, and still only marginal. All about the money.

Joining the party a wee bit late.

I made it all the way to page #260 in this thread before skipping forward to see if key players are still in the mix. I'm about to drop $$ on the HP MPVI2+ and credits, and search out a spare "just in case" ECU. I know the 6sp ones are hard to find but I see from past posts it's also possible to run a 2013-2014 auto-trans ECU if necessary. I'm well-advised on ECU flashing risks, rewards, & best practices.

Just ugpraded from a '99 Taco 2WD 2.4L utility/work truck to a '14 Taco 4L / 4WD / 6spd with 60K miles on it. N/A for the forseeable future but maybe in a year or three I'd put in a S/C. Interested in various off-road only mods, maybe adjusting the SAI setup a bit. Of course I look forward to the rev-hang adjust, improved throttle response curve, etc.

Am I still good to go?

Yes. You will enjoy hptune. I too am a 6spd. The resident tuner, justdsm, is also n/a and I believe a manual too. He has a couple simple mods making it a sweet setup.

Another 6sp HPTUNERS justdsm user here. You’ll really like how it runs after the tune is installed!

    Sa-weeet.
Just placed an order for an HP MVPI2+. Will get a high-quality short USB cable & plan to use my 2019 MB Pro with Windows 10 under VMware Fusion to run VCM Editor/Scanner. I have a NOCO Genius battery minder to use during flash procedures. Probably will pick up that spare ECU & test it out before I try a first flash.

It comes with a good quality USB cable, I just got the same kit few weeks back. @JustDSM can help you out getting started with a tune pack. I just got his tune installed yesterday and enjoying the mild tune so far, haven't tested the aggressive tune yet.

I could be wrong but recall someone saying you could no longer run its off a Mac w/ VM setup. That would make things easy. I ended up using an old laptop just for this.

indeed iota an end of an era but sounds like there is a parallel setup you can try but it’s a. Service based software like half that other stuff now.

I use a Surface tablet now that my work mac doesn't have parralels. Should be able to use anything that can run recent version of windows if that's all youre using it for.

I picked up a spare exact-replacement part# ECU for my 2014 AC 4L 4WD 6sp. I can't accept even the remote chance of "bricking" my truck so I'm going to test flash the spare ECU first. I'd rather do this outside the truck to save the trouble of physically swapping ECU's out of the truck until I want or need to do so.

Can someone point me to a thread or resource on what parts to buy & how to construct a bench-flashing rig for the ECU? I have a suitable computer & will soon have the MPVI2+, so basically I need power supply & data pin-outs, or ideally a place to just buy a pre-made bench-flashing harness.

(Already tried searching "bench flash" in the forums & found a lot of mentions of doing it, but nothing specific on the bench-flash hardware setup itself.)

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
Use a battery charger while you flash and you'll be fine. Most who run into issues are because the battery is less than 12.1 volts when they flash. Disable/pull fuses for all your aux do-dads, lights, bells and whistles when you flash.

I want a bench flash setup, thanks. Appreciate it if anyone can just point me to the pre-existing thread covering this, or if there's a place to just buy a pre-made bench-flash harness I'll do that.

@JustDSM is the only one I know on here running a bench flash rig. I don't think he's documented it anywhere though, but is usually a fairly helpful fellow. There was an HPTuner update a while back, like months ago, that made an update to the write process and greatly reduced the chances of bricking> I don't think I've heard of one being bricked since. But yeah, it's a possibility, it's happened to several folks here.

Also of note if you're using a spare ECU, have you reset the vin on it with techstream? Wouldn't want to have to pay for credits twice.
