    That's right one of GM's most "American" of automotive icons will now be built in china. I would like to see who's gonna buy one of those now.

    Hummer turned sour when they made those gay-ass H2's and H3's. Those are not Hummers.... thier just huge heavy piles of crap. H1 was the only real hummer to me. As far as I'm concerned the Chinese can have them.

    Yea, the H1 Hummer is still built by AM General in Indiana. They do use GM diesel powertrains though. The 6.6L Duramax and Allison transmission are also built in the U.S.

    Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. If you're an American automaker, you should NOT be selling off brands to China and India. That will only give them access to your technology thus enabling them to sell vehicles in the US that much quicker and at devastatingly cheap prices.

    Well with the U.S. Government owning these companies and the government borrowing so much money from China do you think there is going to be an exchange of currency on this transaction? Also Mr. President is acting head of the Auto companies that took money from the Government so I wonder who brokered the deal.
    But don't worry Bob the chinese have been able to reverse engineer almost anything for years, so if they wanted to make it they just buy one and start from the other end.

    Here's what sucks about this whole thing. First of all, GM and Chrysler begged for these bailouts. They chose unwisely and have run their companies poorly for years. They get what they deserved. But what about Ford? several years ago Ford hired the former CEO of Boeing. Smart move No.1. They also hired the former CEO of product development from Lexus. Smart move no.2. Lastly they raised cash by selling assets. Smart move no.3. Lastly, they were one of the first US automakers to redevelop their smaller car lineup.

    So Ford did the right thing. Yet they now have to compete against Chrysler and GM who took government assistance. That's kind of not fair if you ask me. Given the choice now, I'd choose a Ford over a GM product for that reason alone.

    I love Obama's "I don't want to run a car company". How BOGUS!!! the Gummit is going to own ~70% and have a majority of board seats. "I wouldn't be involved in any except the most important decisions".......yeah, like:
    (1) Where plants are to be opened or closed - based on politics to reward his buddies in Congress;
    (2) What types of vehicles to build (all hybrids or to-be-hybrids);
    (3) Union contract negotiations (pro-Union of course);
    (4) Executive Compensation (Limited and CAPPED);
    (5) Healthcare and pension benefits (the more the better, at GM expense).

    The Executives that run the future GM are going to be "ORDER TAKERS" and "LACKEYS" of the government led board of directors. Just watch. They won't stay long.

    Alan Mullaly of Ford is one of the best CEOs in America. He turned Boeing around and started Ford in the right direction. If the economy hadn't tanked last year, they would probably already be profitable.

    Lets not turn this into another "I hate obama" post. The fact as mentioned was that these auto companies made their choice. If you want to place blame- blame them.

    Getting back to China, I see two drastic possibilities. First of all, there is a significant reason GM kept Buick versus Pontiac. In the US Buick is still what blue hairs drive. They are lame. In China, Buick is one of the best selling brands, and more amazingly, the equivalent of a BMW in the US. They have an excellent reputation and are highly coveted. So GM wants to keep a piece of that action. But... those Buicks in China are made in China. I predict that we too will be getting Chinese made Buicks sooner or later. That means huge profits for GM since the cost of labor would be so drastic.

    Second thing I see is that we will be getting Chinese cars anyday now. When we do, that means it will probably be curtains for GM, Ford, and Chrysler. There is no way US labor can compete against Chinese labor. That and China has had the ability to increase quality markedly in a short time, thus who knows? A new-age "Toyota"?

    It'll be interesting.
