In your well written comments you are referring to something I call Corporate Responsibility. Something many companies around the world and especially lately in the US have forgotten to practice.

I hate Nazis, but what does that have to do with building cars and making a profit in 2009?

Henry Ford was no saint. But I was using him as one of many examples of people who ran companies properly.

Looking at this from another way, let's use a simple analogy. Assume that the US decides to run on absolute pure capitalism. It would be easy to assume that eventually all US jobs would be shipped off to a cheaper country. Its not at all unrealistic to think that could happen. I work in the tech industry and an increasing amount of grunt work is going to India. Doctors in Indonesia offer heart bypass surgery for sometimes 1/3rd the cost of US Doctors.

The problem with that is that if that were the case and all US jobs become outsourced in the name of ensuring increasing corporate profits, then that creates a problem where US workers can't actually afford any of the products or services that those companies make because they don't have jobs or have to compete with third world labor.

I've seen what happens when the middle class disappears. I live in the Bay Area of California and here there is essentially no middle class. In order to buy a starter home, even now, requires almost a dual executive income. If you own a house here you are either rich or you're struggling to make the payments. There is no in-between. Either that or you're just old and got in at the right time. Its not at all improbable that this won't happen everywhere else in the country eventually. I was in NC recently and the amount of Yankees moving in was incredible. They're all moving there because the whole Northeast is unaffordable. That again is what happens when you lose your middle class. Eventually they will fill it up and NC too will join the list of states where the middle class cannot thrive.

This is more of a broad reaching conversation that I think doesn't have a solution. The US will not go back to its more stable and economically diverse past. We're on the road to becoming more akin to Brazil or other countries with a 2 tier social strata. That's basically it. So its kind of pointless to argue the inevitable anyway.

Meh...I wouldn't use California as an example for anything. It's a socialist state BY CHOICE.

In my mind the real American auto industry died in the early 70s so it really doesn't matter anymore. If they can't build em right these days, get yourself one of these and do it yourself like I have...:D

Ahh.. I figured Delmarva would show up sooner or later. Now all we need are a couple more rite-wingers to make the conversation fun. I'll inject a few more words to get the topic hoppin':

Socialism, Communism, Obama, McCarthy, Gay marriage, Guns, Ammo, "real Americans", Bibles, Christianity, Anything smelling of progress in technology or science, cigerette lobbys, Oil, and Chicken Fired steak ( Sorry, I'm sort of hungry.) I probably left out a few good ones.

    Ready? Have at it boys!!

No takers on chicken fried steak? Well, here's one for ya, especially for you non-Southerners. Is Chicken fried steak made out of Chicken... or steak?

    Nice car youngunner. Here's mine:

Yup- they don't make em like this anymore. They are easy to work on and will run forever as long as you know how to fix them. On the other hand I've seen numerous reports showing Ford up there with Toyota in quality. Interesting. I'll believe it when I see it.

It depends.. It goes both ways, but yes, chicken fried steak is more common. I had chicken fried chicken the other day for supper. :hungry: and garlic mashed potatoes.

It's sad teh middle class is disappearing in your area. Out here things are okay for now. Solid middle class with plenty of soccer moms and starter homes can still be bought in good neighborhoods.

Hummers are another story altogether..

Oh, I thought it was really spelled Neocons... But right wingers is ok with me too. Glad you're proud to label yourself. I haven't found one for myself yet.

By the way- what exactly are you proud of? That you will by default always disagree with "the other side"? Yes...

    "Whatever they say... I disagree!!"

I love right and left wingers. It makes me feel like a genius taking guesses at how they'll react to particular issues. So readily black and white.

Jesus. I'm in a nasty mood today. Cmon friday!

Whateva' Pster, all I can say is that you're wrong and I'm right. Eggs DO NOT go well with Chicken fried steak. You call yourself a Southerner? Sacrilegious!
