Archery season is near and preparations have been made. This year will be the first that I don't have a full size truck. I'm just curious how many have or are planning on using your short bed taco for hunting? I'm thinking when I down a 800 pound bull elk I will be missing my Superduty.

Ive used mine mostly for quail and turkey. Yeah elk will be a bit much for this truck. (EDIT: A full sized Bull Elk not quartered)

Quarter in the field or bone it out and you'll be fine.

Thx. Despite my complaints the truck does well off road. I do put it to use.

Exactly this. Back in college I drove a Chevy Monte Carlo and the meat I harvested from hunting season is what I lived off of. You don't need a full sized truck if you just field prep properly.

I packed my last one out whole. I'm guessing I'll have to quarter for sure with this mini truck. Just out scouting earlier today and it has me curious how other taco owners do it.

A Goulds? So a mountain Merriams? Ever matched wits with an Eastern? Osceola? Never hunted Merriams, but if anything like Rio's, pretty easy. I've seen those flocks of 50 or more Merriams in one photo.

I prefer the midsize back on the logging roads and off the beaten path, for elk hell yes, you figure an 800lb elk gutted, hide removed, and maybe some deboning, quartered will fit in your bed just fine. Just take into condideration gear, not sure if you pull a camper and supplies or if your a tent guy, either way it is doable.

Love to elk hunt, especially if your lucky enough to get a tag.

Hey Smitty, how do you like your camper ? I wonder if my four banger would cough up its balls towing something like that.

In 2007 I traded my F150 for a DBSB Tacoma. You have to make some adjustments but you can make it work, of course I've never tried it with elk. The best thing I did was spend $800 for a used 10' utility trailer. It made hauling big stuff that wouldn't fit in the Tacoma much easier. In fact I wish I'd done it before with full size trucks. Loading firewood and other heavy stuff is so much easier.

I was going to say the same thing. Get a small utility trailer.
